I see Jack De Belin has got a judgement in his favour as the policy Greenberg and Beattie have used to take him out of the game (despite his claims of innocence) does not appear to have been in place at the time. The NRL appear to have announced the policy and then aimed to use it retrospectively. Have I got that right?

Yep. That's about it. In other words, the NRL is run by muppets.

  2. Well, I agree with you 100%, Graham. Yet, I'm always amazed when I read that people put themselves in that sort of situation in the first place. What is it, the 4th or 5th incident since the start of the month? It's going to be a long offseason.

Edit: Of course, it goes without saying that I'm in no way defending De Belin's actions if what is alleged is true.

Pretty standard for this time of year. During the season the players are either exhausted from training or playing or they're recovering from injury so their "social" lives are limited. And here's another one .......

NRL player Jack De Belin has been charged with the aggravated sexual assault of a woman in Wollongong, south of Sydney.

The alleged 19-year-old victim claims the assault happened at an apartment after the pair met at a nightclub in Wollongong on Saturday night.

Don't get me wrong, I'm ready to believe that this young woman is telling the truth and has been through a painful experience... but, when he proposed a nightcap, what was she expecting?

The Cronulla Sharks have reportedly emerged as favourites to secure the signature of Kiwi international Shaun Johnson after the Warriors granted him an immediate release from the final year of his contract.

But any potential deal with the 2016 premiers may come with a catch, amid rumours the Kiwi superstar has already made arrangements with another club from 2020 onwards.

Featherstone Rovers... Most journos just copy & paste what they read on the internet.

Two-time premiership player Luke Lewis has announced his retirement from the NRL, revealing tonight that he will finish his decorated career at the end of 2018.

The 34-year-old made his NRL debut with Penrith in 2001 and played on the wing in the Panthers' 2003 premiership-winning side.

After 12 seasons and 208 games with Penrith, Lewis joined the Cronulla Sharks in 2014 and tasted grand final glory again his third season in the Shire.

Lewis played back row in Cronulla's memorable 14-12 win over the Storm in the 2016 decider and capped a magnificent game by taking home the Clive Churchill Medal as the best player on the ground.

Lewis played 16 Test matches for Australia and 17 Origins for NSW. He was part of the Blues' series wining sides in 2004 and 2014.

A member of the elite 300-game club, Lewis is one of the most respected figures in the NRL and his Sharks team-mates will be doing their utmost to send him out with a third premiership.

"It's been an awesome 18 years and I've loved every minute of it. I'll retire with great memories," Lewis told Sharks Media.

One of my favorite players ever. I honestly thought he'd spent his whole career at Penrith. So did he, probably.

But, I'm glad he eventually signed to Cronulla. One of the many signings that made 2016 possible.

I do deny that. If I was the NSW Coach and I thought players were only there for the money, I wouldn't pick them. Either way, it just makes Fifita look worse: he'll play for Tonga for bus fare but he won't play for NSW unless he gets 30K.

Point taken. We, fans, look at things one way. Players however have their own motivation.

Who knows what Fittler's thinking anyway?

  7. 1 minute ago, Farmduck said:

Clearly he should shut his mouth before his words choke him to death. If he thinks Origin is about the money then I definitely don't want him anywhere near a Blue jumper.

He better give us plenty of opportunities to use them up this year. I don't want to have to start posting in SL threads. (and definitely not in Champs threads. Some of those Champs club threads are like the cover on a septic tank. I'm too scared to open most of them up. I think half the posters on there have Irish Alzheimer's - they forget everything except the grudges!) Nothing personal Irish Saint.

Come on, FD. Money is a big incentive, you can't deny that.

I think Fifita shouldn't be selected however.

    This casualty list keeps growing...

Parramatta Eels have confirmed that forward Tony Williams has suffered a season-ending knee injury following yesterday’s victory against the Wests Tigers.

Scans today have confirmed that Williams has suffered a rupture of his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) on his right knee.

Williams had only recently returned to the field after recovering from an ACL injury to his left knee suffered last season while playing for Tonga.

Williams will now consult with the Eels medical staff over the next few days and then begin his recovery and rehabilitation.

Time to call it a career, Tony.

You won't believe it, it is so unusualJosh Dugan is injured. Noooo... really injured this time:

I read somewhere that he was of the field 66% of the time last year. I wonder if he gave 1/3 of his salary to charities.

I'm sure he'd like to be healthy and he certainly doesn't get hurt on purpose, but having a marquee signing/superstar player injured so often is disrupting. It was amusing when he was playing for other teams, not so much now.

Leeds Rhinos and former Wests Tigers fan-favourite Keith Galloway has announced his immediate retirement from professional rugby league.

Galloway, who was still contracted to the Rhinos, confirmed his decision in a statement on Thursday morning (AEDT).

The popular red-headed prop, currently in Australia recovering after rupturing his Achilles tendon for a second time last season, admits the time is right to hang up the boots at the elite level.

“It has been a tough decision but I know it is the right one for me and my family,” Galloway, who left the door open to returning to rugby league as an amateur, said.

“Despite my two major injuries at the Rhinos, I have loved being part of this fantastic club. I have made friendships that will last forever and I have enjoyed living in Leeds.

“The time is right for me to move onto the next chapter of my life. I haven’t decided yet if I will play on at some level, if possible I would like to finish my time on the field on my terms but that will not be as a full time professional now as I look towards a career after rugby.”

The 32-year-old joined the Rhinos in 2016 after a successful 210-game NRL career for Cronulla and Wests Tigers.

He managed 43 appearances for a Rhinos stint that was punctuated by Achilles injuries in 2016 and ’17.

Galloway made his NRL debut for the Sharks in 2003 as a 17-year-old high-school student.

He joined the Tigers in 2006, playing 173 games for the joint-venture club over 10 seasons.

The giant prop also played five Tests for the Kangaroos in 2011 and played one State of Origin for NSW in the same year.

He was a young promising Shark. I always liked him, even when he played at the Tigers.

I think he was smashed by Hopoate while at Cronulla... an awful hit which could have gone very wrong.

He's had a good career and a lot to be happyproud about.

    Enjoy your post-retirement career, Keith.

North Queensland Cowboys captain Johnathan Thurston has called for the NRL to introduce a five-minute sin-bin to deter defenders from taking out playmakers after they have passed the ball.

Speaking at the 2018 Telstra Premiership season launch in Sydney on Thursday, Thurston was quite vocal in suggesting the governing body reassess the rules regarding players whacking halves off the ball, adamant the game needed to do more to look after the little men.

''I just think we need to protect our players,'' Thurston said.

''It’s like when we took out the spear tackle and the punching and the shoulder charge. I think this is another thing we don’t need in our game. If you take it to the line, it’s fair game.

''But I’m talking about three seconds after you’ve thrown the ball and your body is all relaxed and someone jams you in the middle of the back and your neck gets whiplashed and you start getting tingles down your arm and start getting back spasms. You need to protect the players.''

Why not? As long as it ensures the safety of the players...

But why 5 minutes and not 10? And why limit this to 'playmakers'? Any late tackle should be punished the same not depending on who the victim is. Next thing we know, the halves will be protected species like the NFL quarterbacks.

If a team fields a forward at 5/8 (Not quite sure if it has happened before, but you know, one day a coach is bound to think out of the box), is he too considered a playmaker/little man or is he fair game?

All things considered, although I like the intent, I don't like the proposed solution.

Late tackle, high tackle, spear tackle... penalty. And if it was deemed dangerous, a red card. Just follow the rule book. Things will improve very quickly.

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is set to knock back both New Zealand Rugby and rival NRL clubs to re-sign with the Warriors.

Apparently the off-contract fullback is poised to sign a long-term deal with the Auckland-based NRL club.

Tuivasa-Sheck had been reportedly considering a shock switch to rugby union and a chance to don the famous All Blacks jersey.

“We’ve talked about it and we’ve certainly talked about it before,” Tuivasa-Sheck’s manager Bruce Sharrock said.

“That’s his background, the All Blacks are a world-recognised team with an amazing success rate. If you thought you were good enough to be a part of it, it’s not a bad ship to be a part of.”

A return to Australia for Tuivasa-Sheck had also been rumoured, with the South Sydney Rabbitohsand the Wests Tigers both reportedly keen to lure him back across the Tasman.

Should Tuivasa-Sheck now re-sign with the Warriors, it would add some stability to the club looking to rebuild following nine-straight defeats to end 2017.

A strong recruitment drive for 2018 including Adam Blair, Tohu Harris and Blake Green and the re-signing of their captain on a long-term deal would have the Warriors faithful buoyed for a big season.

I'm genuinely astonished... But he hasn't signed anything yet.

I feel these name reflect that necessary ‘inspired individuality’ while covering the twins’ base.

My knowledge of West Yorkshire's finest places has improved tenfold overnight.

Edit: These are (it goes without saying really) wonderful suggestions. I hope George does wander in these parts from time to time...

The Burgess clan is set to grow by one in 2018, with South Sydney prop George Burgess announcing his wife Joanna is expecting their second child.

I hope the poor kids are fitted with parachutes... falls can be deadly.

Congrats to the young lad and his wife.

But, really? Boston? What's next? New York? Chicago? Detroit? Bradford?

I can’t believe you would resort to such a purchase.

Talking of Paul Gallen, where did you get it from and how much was it??

    :D

Don't be daft. Sometimes, it's better not to tell.

One thing though, stuff out of the dark web can be really expensive.

Edit: My Burgess twins doll has never let me down. Expect plenty more dropped balls again this year.
