I'm sure she's where she is by merit, and should absolutely be applauded for having achieved what she has. Especially in a world where everything is labelled as "woke".
Re. that first bit. You may be right. But I've lost count of the number of people I've worked with who advanced not on merit but more due to a box ticking exercise. Whether or not this is the case here - we may well find out. Actually my original comment was as much to do with the fact that the BBC are not interested in us but do show the ladies final.

First time we'll have had a female referee in a recognised Fev game. Tara Jones is an ex-England international who played for St Helens before giving up playing to concentrate on officiating. She's already been referee in a couple of Championship games this season as well as multiple League 1 games (she yellow carded 2 Hunslet players when they played Halifax), having been a touch judge in plenty of SL games. I am sure like all new referees, perhaps more so, she'll end up getting criticised a lot, but she's at least as well qualified as most of the new Championship referees this year.
Crikey. Are the BBC televising it or something ?

Callum Field left Widnes at the end of last year stating that he was taking a year out of the game.
Harvey Spence reportedly went to Australia at the end of 2023 having played for Keighley as you say.
Don't think Jacob Doyle has played at semi-pro level for a couple of years, perhaps back in the amateur game or RU?
Sweeting definitlely at Midlands Hurricanes and Summers has played for Dewsbury this year.
Brown and Chisholm are both retired.
A shame that Brown retired - didn't know that.
I thought that Doyle had a great future in the game. He could definitely finish and I recall that John Ferguson-esque shimmy to score in 2021.

This might be getting overly complicated but its not SKY is it. So you have to register but its not a SKY account.

Might seem an odd thing to say but the win at Barrow has made me look forward to the 1895 final even more.
The reason is, if we had lost at Barrow we would have been in a really tough situation in terms of qualifying for the top 6. Realistically of the current top 6 it's Barrow and Halifax that we have the best chance of overtaking, and if Barrow had beaten us they would have gone 7 points clear of us, which would have been tough to peg back.
We're still 4 points behind Halifax, but on recent form we must have a fair chance of catching and passing them, especially if we can beat them at home in a couple of weeks' time.
I really didn't want to go into the 1895 Cup thinking that our season depended on that game, but we're now in a position where a top 6 finish looks a lot more feasible than it did a few weeks ago. We know we're playing a very good team in York and it's hard to predict the outcome of Saturday's game, but there's definitely a feelgood factor about the club now that wasn't there just a few weeks ago.
Yeah its crazy that - even though we're not half way through the league season yet - Fax were 10 pts clear of us a few weeks back but we're now looking at catching them. We'll need to win the return fixture in a couple of weeks to have a realistic chance of that - you would think. At the moment it's difficult to know who we want to win or lose each week if we are to get in the 6. I'm sure its going to be tight come the end of the season but at least we're back in the game - for now....

In RL Express It shows it as been on SL+
This is potentially great news for those of us not going. I wasn't aware of the channel but looking on the website it only mentions the ladies and mens cc finals in the listings as live games on Saturday ? Hopefully that's just because they don't think our final is worth mentioning - given that way more people will be tuning in to the ladies final

Impressive interview with Paul on radio Leeds. He stressed how important it was for the players ,supporters and club.By the sound of it O'connor and and Olphertrs out as we all anticipated.Didn't mention Reynolds so i would say he is certain to play. And something a bit different may be needed as the teams know each other so well and are closely matched.
I take back what I said about Olpherts then. A shame for him in particular - I'd assumed he'd played there last year for Wakey but just checked and he didn't make the 17. I'm sure Bailey will get another chance - I think he's been very good since forcing his way into our best starting 13.

For me.........
1. Beckett - that first half in particular was outstanding
2. Vuniyayawa
3. Hampshire
So many others could have got a vote but got to mention Reynolds, Aekins, Webb, Day, Hampshire, Glover.

Good performance i expected us to win but i said by 10 points.Reynolds was very good until he went off and King v and Springer were a force in the middle.Gaz did enough to keep his place next week and if Josh was just rested i think he is certain to play in the centre.Lost the picture (frozen) for over 20 min in the first half.
Yeah I said by 18

That wasn't a good performance. That was nothing short of an astonishing performance. To come through it with such early injury losses and have to play Reynolds on one leg showed an unbelievable amount of grit and determination. Plus we somehow continued throughout to look dangerous with the ball and probably clicked better than we have all season. Such a shame that just when we've definitely turned a corner and found ourselves in an average injury situation - we're back in the mire.
Did Olpherts sub himself to rest for next week ? (If he doesn't start next week I'll take that back)
Ref was terrible.

Ben Reynolds limping at the end of the first half. Leading 18-6 and have looked very slick with ball in hand, but at what cost with next week in mind?
Tough second half coming up into a strong wind and with injuries really impacting our line-up.Yeah noticed that. Similar to the Oldham league game when he was limping and Hampshire took over kicking. He didn't play the next week.

Hard to know whats going off as the camera is so zoomed in on the player with the ball. Plus had to turn sound off as it was so poor. Just our luck that 2 backs get injured and theres no replacement - when recently we had Hardy and Gale on the bench. That said - our first try - a middle makes a break and passes to a middle in support. Who needs backs
-
Regarding resting players and with the greatest respect for our opposition surely we shouldn't be even thinking about that until Hunslet at home in a couple of games time (injuries permitting). I really hope I don't regret saying that.
I thought Cooke was very canny in that respect against Batley and took key players off when the game was won.

For mine, I would rest O'connor, as he should be nailed on for a start at Wembley, and look at options for the other centre.
I would play Glover, and give Hatton a chance to stake a claim for the final. If Hardy is on the bench and Hatton is poor we can put Josh in his place. If Hatton doesn't stake a claim for the final then it would be either Gale or Josh to partner O'connor.
I would save Addy and Williams for the final and go with the same pack as last week.
Always interesting to hear other peoples opinions but for me O'Connor has booked his place at Wembley already - whether or not he is rested and Hatton has a stormer against Barrow.

I agree I know Olpherts ed up twice but he is great for running the ball out from our own half
That's low targets we have for our wingers then

Ok I'll be the first to say it......
Olpherts...... wtf.
Did he have a bet on himself to score just one try or something ? That first blunder ?! - I really need to see it again. He seemed to just forget to put the ball down. It was like watching NFL.

Sounds like Wynne and Williams are injured not being rested. Either way I'm not sure we can afford to rest players at the moment. For me we need to win out next few league games just to get back in the hunt so we need to put our best team out. Do our rivals rest players ?
-
Seriously though - looking at the squad we'd need two more injuries in the forwards (on top of Boothroyd leaving this week and Williams omission) before Akuola gets in my 17.

Difficult to pick 2nd and 3rd. Could have given it to any of them (for once!)

I understand one of the things mentioned at the recent fans' forum was that the club were going to focus more on signing relatively local players next season. Given the costs of flights, organising visas etc that's probably understandable as we probably haven't had as much value as we would have liked from our overseas recruits in the last 18 months. If Boothroyd is leaving early, you can add him to the list of Jayden Tanner, Paul Turner, and Zach Herring who only lasted a few months over here and of course there have been plenty more similar instances, notably the 3 PNG signings who were all gone by mid-season in 2019.
I'm sure we could compile a cracking team of overseas players who didn't hang around for long. Then again we'll never know how good they might have been.
-
Well on the bright side it looks like yet again nobody will be suffering from selection headaches again this season. Maybe that forward we signed from Toulouse can be ar$ed to put in a couple of shifts.

Astonished at both this comment and the number of likes. I'd had totally underestimated the levels of PC-ness on here.
imo if you don't say what you are thinking there's no point in a forum.
