It's a schedule that was put in place since before the 2013 World Cup to best fit in the RLWC with other major tournaments. Everyone agreed to it. It's the World Cup for goodness sake,  no country should need pleading to play and I certainly don't think anyone would expect an RL country to have to be begged to attend it.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting a Nation has to be begged to play.

There has been a few issues in the World in the last two years, there were contracts to sign to say a Nation was attending, the Kiwis signed it I don’t think Australia did.

Its a bit like two years ago when Great Britain toured the SH and they had not got Australia on board to play when they organised it.

it must have lost a fortune and was a disaster on the field that lowered GB/England’s standing in the game more than ever.

It appears that Australia pulling out of the WC has upset people from around the UK.

On the Daily Mail Online site there is an article by an Aussie hack called Mike Colman who has savaged the English cricket team for the suggestion that they might not tour Australia later in the year for The Ashes.

I was going to sign up so I could post a suitable response about the two faced article but to my surprise there are many comments from people all over the UK about the ARLC decision.

Did Australia ever sign up for the RLWC?

They were expected to attend but never signed up for it.

    I’m struggling.

I missed most Canberra Raiders games last year as they played most away in Covid safe hubs.

Now they’ve moved all Canberra home games to Queensland over 1000km away.

Canberra hasn’t had a single case of community transmission of Covid in over a year.

Canberra is one of the most Covid free places on earth, and has the current highest vaccination rate in Australia, yet they move the Raiders to SE Queensland where they have lockdowns and Covid kicking off.

I do know, deep down, that I just need a few great home games next season, and after feeling part of the RL community again, I’ll be back.

RL is what I enjoy, it’s a big part of my enjoyment in life and it’s been in turmoil.

Communities are better if they have things like sport or other things. I won’t go away, I’ll do what I can to help it build and grow…. It just feels hard to do right now.

All of the teams have to be in the same bubble.

Are you suggesting Canberra can support all of the NRL teams with accommodation and  facilities to keep the game going?

I can not see it myself.

You do realise they wouldn't all be using the facilities at the same time don't you?

As an example, when I worked in Scotland I used a gym that was part of a Sport Scotland Facility, in the time that I was there it was used by, amongst others. Scotland FA, Glasgow Warriors RU, Scotland RL, British Sailing, British Gymnasts training for the Commonwealth games in Glasgow and several lower level football teams in pre-season, pretty sure I've missed some.

Even in normal times, the facilities such as pitches, changing facilities, and sports halls were for their exclusive use for the times they were allocated, even the gym and weight training areas were blocked out for 2 hour slots. There were times when individual athletes trained at the same time as the general public, but that seemed to be their choice

In the current circumstances I'd expect this to be even tighter, probably with cleaning regimes in place in between uses. I think what Tommy meant was the Kiwis would not get exclusive use for the duration of the world cup, that does not mean they will be mixing with all and sundry, but you seem to chose to portray it that way.

So you hope someone wipes down the weight bench before your session.

That is not a Bubble at all.

Its a random joint use of a Gym with the hope that the basic pay cleaners are doing more than they are getting paid to do.

    Good luck with that.
You wonder why AUS and NZ do not want  to visit Visit Covid Island.

Has Phil Gould - or anyone, for that matter - explained why it's so dangerous for the Rugby League team to come to England but it's fine for the Wallabies and All Blacks to play in the UK ?

    I think I must've missed his wisdom.

Maybe they are not happy with the shared Hotel and Gym facilities.

Why would the Rugby League teams administrators   look at what the Union teams accept or approve?

They would look at what they are getting.

They'd be using Headingley's Leeds Beckett Uni Gym facilities. These are used by pro athletes all the time, for example Leeds United used them for their first days back in preseason a couple of weeks ago an England RL in a mid season training session perfectly well in a bio secure way. Indeed I believe the kiwis have been there regularly before

It is a huge professional campus with multiple facilities within it. Asking them to close all of it down to anyone who is not the 30 odd man Kiwi travelling team would be unreasonable. Likewise hotels, what are they actually expecting beyond what everyone else says is acceptable?

Its all conjecture anyway, I hope those trial games are good!

So you are saying there was no isolation bubble at all?

Maybe that is why the Kiwis were worried?

I am neither for or against what has happened but some of the mad rubbish posted on this site in the last two days makes you wonder.

I know that the World Cup organisers, in consultation with the Government, said they addressed NZRL's reasonable concerns - so if one of them was sharing a gym with the public, they are not being asked to share a gym with the public.  I would go as far as to say I can't imagine that they ever were being asked to share a gym with the public and suspect it is convenient exaggeration / misinformation from an agenda driven interview.

    That is what you believe.

I am only quoting what was said on BBC 5 live podcast.

Not attending the WC has very little to do with covid, so it's irrelevant how proper something is if someone doesn't want to do it.

It has everything to do with Covid, a lot of the World does not agree with the UKs approach.

Tell me how is the Super League season going?

But.. but the experts tell us we will have herd immunity and no cases soon after the spike.. maybe.

That's some gym that has 50k cases a day.

Do you really believe that they are making the Oz/NZ teams share a gym with the public?  "After you on that machine please cobber?"

    Give over.

    I didn’t say that did I.

You tell me are they sharing the Gym?

The head of the Kiwis said that, Tommygilf said it’s the way it is.

    What do you know?

Sorry if I'm repeating a question, couldn't see it in the 37 pages, but are Australia and new Zealand sending teams to the Olympics? If covid is such a threat then surely the same must apply for Tokyo!?

    They are in total isolation.

    The arenas are empty.

Have you ever heard of the term Apples and Apples?

  11. Just out of interest has anyone listened to the latest podcast of BBC 5 Live?
It was said that the New Zealand team would be sharing accomodation with general members of the pubic if they toured and were sharing Gym facilities with all and sundry walk ins.

I do not know if that is true but if it is it’s hardly any sort of safe bubble where you would feel safe.

    Just saying.
