  2. AH! The good ol' days! Those were better times ..
  3. I think it is perfectly reasonable to feel more connected to this case in comparison to other things that happen in the world. I think that humans aren't designed to feel the exact same empathy for each thing that happens in the world, or we wouldn't be able to do or think about anything else - But for certain events, if they have some similarity in common with you, then you connect and feel more strongly about what has happened. Like in this case, it is very sad to see that someone has been killed, and I have a certain amount of empathy because of that already, but that someone played Rugby League which makes it feel a bit closer to home then just a stranger in another country.
  4. Name the winning teams (1 point each): Warrington vs. Leeds Wakefield vs. Salford Leigh vs. HKR St Helens vs. Castleford Wigan vs. Huddersfield Hull FC vs. Catalans How many teams will score fewer than 10 points in the round (1 point) 3 How many teams will score more than 30 points in the round (1 point) 3
  5. I have very fond memories of Sykes playing for London for many years - A great player, who I am always astonished when I still see him playing all these years later. Has anyone played longer in the "professional" game then Sykes?
  6. If there is even a tiny hole in those waivers, you know a billionaires lawyers will find it
  7. That is awful business practice. You would hope agents would get explicit assurances moving forward before letting players sign for them.
  8. Surely an issue like this should give the players union a leg up in negotiations - This is the first time I have heard about players not being insured other than the Irish woman player that got injured. I feel like no fan would back the club in a discussion like this, if a player got injured while playing for the team I support then I fully expect my club to pay for the required surgery/rehab or whatever is needed.
  9. I am sure getting to North London might be easier for you .. But I am not sure North London is the easiest place to get to for a lot of the fans, we haven't played much in the North of London compared to the South or more likely West. I am sure there are a lot of fans like me that feel very detached from the club that we were, I grew up watching them after my Dad started watching them as Fulham and have been following them around ever since. The club has been run into the ground from where we were, a position we only find ourselves in due to DH's love of the game and club, but also from his poor mismanagement over the years when it comes to sports management. Oh how things may have been different if the RFL had let Leneghan stay as an owner as well as owning Wigan.
  10. You do realise people come onto forums to debate and discuss things, especially one of the biggest games of 2023 so far?
  11. It isn't just about it being 900 and that being more than enough for Broncos attendances.. The ground is awful - The moment you move there half of the current attendees will stop. It is worse than Trailfinders and that was pretty bad as a stadium as well. Everything that people have said over the years about New River suggests that the Local Authority wouldn't be happy to sell it to a private company. Yes, the Broncos are a club that own nothing and probably won't, I just don't foresee them buying New River either, or if they did how both them and Skolar's could flourish there.
  12. It's disgraceful that a player who is in our second division is having to use go fund me in order to pay for his surgery, an injury sustained while playing RL. Keighley's owners should be ashamed of themselves, I understand that not all clubs have the funds to pay for everything, but not to have 10k to spend on an injury for one of your own players? Awful.
  13. It was just that you said the alternative to not playing at New River was that RL is dead in London. And please don't think that I think we are in some great position, I already know that the club is a complete shadow of what it used to be, and it didn't used to be that much in the beginning. Going to the New River would kill off the Broncos completely. What the Skolar's have is there's, they have been slowly building up for many years at New River but I don't foresee any real development of the ground there or any prospect of any club moving up while they play out of it. I don't want to take a guess at how many people the stand there can handle, but it isn't a lot. The only real way RL survives in London is to have a Super League team that isn't awful and can actually win some games.
  14. So the only option for RL in London is for the Broncos and Skolars to merge and play out of a run down athletics stadium? God we are &£$*£(
  15. Almost missed this week.. woops. Name the winning teams (1 point each) Hull FC vs. St Helens Castleford vs. Warrington Hull KR vs., Wakefield Leeds vs. Huddersfield Catalans vs. Leigh Salford vs. Wigan Which match will produce the highest aggregate score (1 point) Castleford - Warrington Which match will produce the lowest aggregate score (1 point) Leeds - Huddersfield
  16. I honestly don't think that Qld were too good at everything, they weren't particularly clinical, they dropped the ball a few times, they were there for the taking if NSW had any idea on how to break a defence down. I do agree that the left side of Addo-Carr was pretty awful for helping run the ball back, honestly it feels like it's been awhile since I have seen him put in a full shift but I don't watch his club matches too often. Luai has a step an ok short pass and that is about it for his attacking arsenal, it can look great and exciting when he is at full speed and stepping off his left foot, but he isn't particularly skillful and I felt Moses definitely was the better and more effective NSW half yesterday, so I expect him to be dropped for the next game and Luai to retain his spot.
  17. Overall - For what is often billed as the greatest spectacle of RL.. It was a pretty disappointing game, lots of errors - NSW can't even be described as coached, they just look like they get thrown onto the pitch and Fittler says "have fun". QLD had plenty of set plays and ways of creating an overlap and I don't think NSW had a single move planned out. I would say that I support NSW generally speaking, as when I first starting watching Origin all they did was lose, so naturally I started rooting for the underdog until they eventually won a series again, but they don't look like they would win anything with Fittler in charge. Generally speaking I don't mind the aussie commentators, but they were pretty poor today. Like Dunbar says, I enjoy the more "edge" that SoO brings, but I think certain things should be punished. I wasn't a fan of the Reece Walsh high tackle (the one that was challenged and the commentators were upset they gave it as a high tackle) - The tackle itself was around the neck with both arms, but it was more when they were on the ground and Walsh decided to wrench at the neck of the NSW player twice while he was already tackled. Wasn't a great look, but wasn't mentioned by the TV people.
  18. I haven't watched the whole game yet - But I just found it hilarious how the commentators tried their best not to call QLD's second try a forward pass. Are all of the commentry team from Queensland? As one person almost called it forward before calling it a "line" ball and then going on to never address it and call it a great Origin try.
  19. If he is as bad as he is being portrayed on here, constantly favouring the bigger teams - It sounds like overalll, he is very consistent
  20. No worries - I will be watching the rest of this game with my supervisors cap on. It is a new role that I am currently interviewing for under IMG, they're watching my performance on this thread at the moment.
  21. Hull fans annoyed by a penalty they have received for head contact in a tackle where I didn't see any contact that warranted a penalty ..
  22. This game isn't over by any means - If Hull can actually stop attempting so many tackles and actually make them then they might be OK. They have still been making quite a few line breaks but their defence is all arms.
  23. I guess that depends a lot on what those players are saying and how their actions are perceived by the referee. Without any examplels I can't recall a specific one where I felt that a player should have been sinbinned for dissent but wasn't
  24. You can still use your legs to trip someone and touch them with your hands. His movement with his legs didn't look too natural in just trying to make a tackle.
  25. I don't think I have seen many Saints or Leeds players confront the referee in quite the fashion Griffin did. Or to then continue after being yellowed initially. Not everything is a conspiracy.
