  1. I was looking forward to my first visit to Dewsbury, but went down to a stomach bug and had to spend the day in bed feeling sorry for myself instead.

Looking at the table, loosing by just 14 points could be considered a tactical victory for the Cru as our points difference is still 172 better than Rochdale, could be very important on the last day of the seasom. Meanwhile Dewsbury can put the champagne on ice as they are now just one win from the title, what a game that will be next week at Hunslet, who are the only team who can mathematically catch them.

Thank goodness we have already played Midlands Hurricanes twice.😃

Tough times for you at the moment.

Have you only had one league match and one cup match at Eirias so far this year?

    Yes only the two games.

The guys running the club are like magicians. It really is a matter of survival at the moment, hoping for the stability we thought we were going to get this year.

Will you get back to Eirias for the last week of the regular season (or potential home play-off matches) or is that it for Colwyn this year?

I don't honestly know if we will be back at Eirias for the last game against London Skolars, and to be fair I don't think the club know either. It will be interesting to see if the pre-season friendly for the union team goes ahead on 12th August.

We can't finish above 6th place now, so any playoff games will be away from home.

As one of the sadder stattos on this forum, any idea of some of our other home gates? Hmmm, Rhyl - another new ground for the collection, nice drive to get there.

Next two home games, against Cornwall and Doncater at Rhyl RUFC. No stands there but apparently a very good clubhouse.

Not officially announced yet, but was being talked about in the clubhouse after the game, and I spoke to someone involved in running the club, in the Turf when we got back to Wrexham.

  5. Not officially announced yet, but we were told yesterday that our next two home games, against Cornwall and Doncaster, will be played at Rhyl RUFC.

This is our fifth home venue of the season and our recovery plans in the post central funding age are essentially in tatters. This is costing the club a lot of money.

As for what is happening at Colwyn Bay, there have been rumours that the wrong type of pitch surface has been laid, but we will have to wait until next month to find out if there is any truth in this. The union team, RGC, have a pre-season friendly against Sale on 12th August, so we will have to wait and see if this game goes ahead or not.

It does appear that the work has still not been signed off, and there is huge controversy over the way it has been paid for. The council have been accused of spending the money on the pitch without proper authorisation, and the matter has now been referred to the Auditor General for Wales.

  6. A bit disappointing yesterday, Workington the better team and deserved winners. But with our points difference compared to Rochdale, losing by just 8 points is as good as a draw.

The large Town following were a very welcome sight, boosting the crowd to just over 600. We need every penny we can get at the moment with the club's recovery in the post central funding age in tatters due to the ground issues.

Next home game back on the North Wales coast in two weeks time.........in sunny Rhyl.

Is it worth booking hotel in Colwyn Bay for the Doncaster game?

Sorry to be a pest but a weekend there is as close as I can manage to a summer hol 🙂

I don't think anyone can give you a definite answer.

We do have another home game, against Cornwall, on 30th July. It's only a week before the Doncaster game, but once the venue is confirmed you should have your answer.

Sorry it's not much help to you, but this situation is out of our hands and we are dependent on the council getting their act together.

  8. Eirias Park stadium is home to Rygbi Gogledd Cymru (RGC) the North Wales rugby union development side, and the WRU has invested heavily in the stadium which is why the facility is so good.

All we really know is that the pitch is being relayed to 4g standard and there is a delay in getting it signed off. The stadium is owned and managed by Conwy County Borough Council and all we can do is accept what the council are telling us. The following appeared in the Wrexham Leader last week:

A Conwy County Borough Council spokesperson said: "We are extremely sorry for the delay with the new pitch at Stadiwm CSM which will impact on some of the forthcoming North Wales Crusaders home games.

"We are working with the Crusaders to find an alternative location for each of the games and apologise to the team and the fans for the inconvenience caused.

"The new pitch will provide much needed benefits to our partners and communities, allowing more frequent use of the facility and a greater number of events on site.

"We’re looking forward to extending our programme of activity and working with the North Wales Crusaders and RGC to help develop their important work and their growth in North Wales.

"We are grateful to the WRU for their financial support for this project."

  9. Club statement just released, at least we have some stability for a few weeks.

We played a couple of games at Chester in 2016, after being forced to leave the Racecourse. A decent venue with a nice clubhouse and an old fashioned wooden stand.

This will be our fourth venue for home games this season, does anyone know if this is some kind of record?

It's #### that they're forced into playing at places like this and Caldy - they really aren't up to semi-pro standard.

I really feel for NWC and their supporters. It looked as though they had found a home that could meet their needs long term at Colwyn Bay, but they seem to be treated as an afterthought and given the elbow whenever their fixtures are inconvenient. The lack of timely notification from their landlords just adds to that.

It's unbelievable what we have to put with, as well as the visiting clubs and the RFL, who have also been inconvenienced by all of this.

Anyway, I've found a few more pictures of the ground here: https://www.kingfisherlighting.com/kingfisher-sport/case-studies/nant-conwy-rfc/

What's even more frustrating for me is that I'm working for the next three Sundays and can't get the time off.

Do you know why they can’t play the match in Colwyn Bay?

The grass pitch at the stadium has been removed and replaced with a 4g pitch. The annoying thing is that the club have bent over backwards to accommodate the change (not that we have any choice) and have now gone 11 weeks without a home game. I think OriginalMrC sums it up nicely in his post, it's all about how valued you are as a tenant.

There is another 4g pitch next to the stadium and if you look at the pictures of the women's game from Sunday, it looks pretty much the same standard as Midlands Hurricanes are using for their home games.

Edit: sorry, put the wrong link up, changed it to the right one.

  12. A few weeks ago I posted about the club appointing a full time community development officer. https://www.northwalescrusadersrlfc.co.uk/post/crusaders-community-development-officer-to-go-full-time

Now we have the news that the newly formed women's team played their first game on Sunday.

I'm not involved in organising any of this, and I wasn't at the game on Sunday, but with all the challenges this club has faced over the years, it really is quite inspiring to hear stories like this.

Ok thanks, I didn't realise the capacity was nearly that high, thought I'd read that it was lower, but my mistake sorry.   Do you think that the positive seeds that are being sown in schools etc are translating into small steps forward in attendance in recen ttimes - I hope so?

I hope so too, perhaps we will find out when we start playing at home again. Only two home games so far this year, and one of those was played in Widnes!

We're back in Colwyn Bay next month after a 10 week gap between home games for the laying of a new 4g pitch, then we have four home games in four weeks.

I really like going to Colwyn Bay, but some of us would also like come back to Wrexham where the fans are (but that's another story). I'm not sure how much people realise that moving to Colwyn Bay literally saved the club from folding a couple of years ago.

Fearnowt.  Excellent read and well done to all at the club.

Out of curiosity is the position fully funded by the club or a mix of club and external funding?  If the former then it’s a great effort.  If it’s the latter then it shows that all clubs that currently don’t have such a position can learn from this.

As I have said in a post this morning, I'm not involved in organising any of this but understand it is driven by the North Wales Crusaders Foundation.

    https://www.facebook.com/NorthWalesCrusadersFoundation?locale=en_GB

I'm not really aware how they are funded, but I know the supporters trust are chipping in to help get things going, so it's pretty much a do it yourself effort from the club. As well as the junior programme in the schools, a women's team has been formed this year.

Fearnowt can I ask please. I understand that the stadium in Colwyn bay has a decent atmosphere, which is great. I've considered trying to get there myself.  But, best case scenario and Crusaders get promoted, I understand that the stadium also has a low capacity. Is there talk of what might happen in future if demand for tickets exceeds the stadium capacity? Cheers

The stadium capacity is 6,000 and our record crowd was about 1,600 at the Racecourse, when we won promotion in 2013, so don't see us exceeding capacity any time soon.

  16. Quite pleasantly surprised at the reaction to my post. Truth be told I'm not involved in organising any of this, I'm just a fan who thinks it"s a good news story worthy of posting on here.

I do know that this is being funded by the club and supporters (through the supporters trust), I just hope it is sustainable.

(Posting this on my break at work, I'll pay another visit when I've got more time tonight).

Yes, I'll be there too - haven't been to Widnes since the Fulham days when it was Naughton Park and had that shallow terracing that made it difficult to see properly. Mind you, the way we were playing that was probably a good thing! Incidentally, does anyone know if Tommy Johnson's still with us as he wasn't in either of our teams for the pre season friendlies.

    TJ has retired.
