I’ve pretty much written off the cup game, Amone and Mulhern might be in the 17 but they won’t be fully / match fit. But if we can have a run of games with Amone, Ipape, Mulhern, and Asiata starting with Dwyer, Norman, Trout and Holmes on the bench, we can get a few results.

Cant face too many games of us playing with Hughes and Nakubuwei down the middle

My comment was more about avoiding embarrassing scores rather than winning the next couple. I'm not expecting anything until we play Cas at the start of May.

  2. I'd be shocked if this is anything but a fairly convincing win for KR. They're in good form and playing well, we're in a hole with the injuries and lacking confidence, not to mention Dwyer won't be available for us.

Still, Amone could be back this week much earlier than anticipated and Mulhern is a maybe so there is light starting to appear at the end of the tunnel and we can hopefully start getting the bulk of our salary cap back on the field.

Except the away end at the DW is unreserved seating for RL games. Saints fans queue up before the turnstiles open and then do the RL equivalent of sticking towels on sunloungers to try and save the seats for their mates. Similar story in the South Stand for home fans. I should know, I spent 10 years printing the tickets.

(It was reserved seating for the World Club Challenge, but that was a whole other set up)

Also I should add that the North Stand has 5,400 seats yet only a maximum of 4,800 are allowed in with reserved seating and even fewer for unreserved so that makes things easier (might only be 4,600 now based on Bolton’s allocation a few weeks ago)

Is that why they have the coverings on the front few rows?

Huddersfield announced straight away they suspended their player pending an internal investigation, as its a police matter they would be limited what they can say in public, they have now announced that their internal investigation is over and the suspension is lifted, Leigh didn't even announce they were suspending or investigating their player instead made him a victim, put him straight in the match day squad and even (probably as a gimmick as he wasn't even that good in that match) awarded him player of the match too.

Please don't compare the two clubs as there is and always will be a huge gulf in class between Ken Davy and Huddersfield Giants and Derek Beaumont and leigh leopards!

You have no idea what did or didn't go on behind closed doors at Leigh in terms of disciplinary or suspension, especially considering the actual incident occurred weeks before it actually came out in the press.

A 1 or 2 week suspension with no public consequences(which you were crying for with ZH) for inarguably a worse offence since he also allegedly assaulted a police officer is hardly a case for trying to claim some moral high ground. Nor would I describe it as classy.

Haha L&D. They are lucky if they are getting paid at all never mind being sent on training courses.

I say this as someone who has done club media including match updates that it's a very difficult job. Play by play updates are virtually impossible if you are doing it on your own. It may be that Leigh are paying loads of money to a company to do it for them and Derek expects more but I doubt it.

It is a salaried position these days for the media role at Leigh and has been for a couple of years now.

  6. Back to the match last night, it went pretty much as i expected(especially after seeing Mulhern was missing). We were far too outgunned to have any realistic chance unless Wigan had a serious off day, which they definitely didn't.

Not one to usually single out players negatively, but Nakubuwai HAS to go. I struggle to think of a worse prop at Leigh when playing in SL. I'd much rather see us play the kids such as Jacob Gannon/Lewis Baxter who at least have room to develop than a guy approaching 30 who struggles to break a light jog.

The tweet from Beaumont was after about 15 minutes of the game. The updates were Kick off, Fans are singing, Wigan try, Moylan sin bin. They then reverted to an update after every set. What Beaumont said was correct, but should've done it by text message or something.

Leigh's matchday updates were excellent years ago when Mark Taylor was writing them, more informative than listening to radio commentary even, but Leigh's current Social Media output is very poor imo. Beaumont shoudl be investing in some L&D for the media team.

I forget his name now, but we had a great media guy for the first half of last year who ended up leaving for a job and Preston NE. The new guy isn't nearly as good.

Do you not think as a public spectator sport where when something bad happens it's broadcast to literally everyone who follows the sport that the Leigh club should address the issue on a public scale rather than behind closed doors? yes they may have sanctioned him privately but they would gain more respect by telling the public this rather than keeping quiet.

The whole RL world knows what he's done and at the moment it would be in Leigh's best interest to at least acknowledge the seriousness of his behaviour to the public wouldn't it rather than it appearing they have ignored it and are more bothered about their player playing for them?

I'd expect a public denouncement at the very least from any club within our sport who's employee caused negative press.

No one knows what Huddersfield found in their internal investigation and if they have in fact punished him internally, what we do know is they have done something and have now lifted his ban to continue his career, he was getting into the 1st team squad so will see being demoted to play at Bradford as a punishment, hopefully.

The fact they suspended him straight away suggests they weren't happy with him, they could have played him at London and awarded him the player of the match award though rather than suspending him!.

It's funny you say that now, when you were saying essentially the opposite on the Zak Hardaker thread less than 2 months ago

As with every season, every fan will feel aggrieved at some point due to decisions made against one of their players, nothing we can do except get on with it and accept it.

It's people doing precisely the opposite that got the overly zealous rulings on accidental head clashes reduced significantly.

If everyone just got on and accepted things, we'd still be having hookers milking penalties by intentionally passing into retreating defenders.

What happened to the green card?

As with most changes to the rules, it got used in abundance for a few weeks at the start of the season then we forgot all about it and went back to normal. At this point I think we have to accept that in SL rounds 1-3, 4-27 and playoffs will be refereed to 3 different tolerance levels of the rules, gradually relaxing until you have the GF where almost everything is let go to let the game flow and we all have our yearly discussion about how good it is seeing refs just let a game go.

That was pretty cynical from Westerman, I thought. Clearly trying to get the tackler carded for a fairly innocuous contact. Thought the officials made the right call.

It's kind of funny seeing a guy most famous for(on the field that is) his no nonsense approach tk knocking his kneecap back in place in the middle of a tackle so he can continue playing, clutching his face like a premier league footballer.

Terrible pundit. Sounds like Harry Enfield's Kevin the Teenager character at times. When he was talking about the Asiata tackle, he was close to making a decent point, but it was drowned out by his sulky, mouth frothing delivery.

When he first started at the BBC on SLS and CC broadcasts purely as a studio pundit I thought he was actually not bad and was a bit of a refreshing change at the time. Since he's moved to sky though there seems to be a deliberate effort to be more controversial and argumentative as soon on Monday night football with Carragher/Neville/Keane etc but as you say it comes off sulky and petulant these days. He needs reigning in significantly by sky

Did Leigh win any of those games before last year?

Nope, came close a few times. We were 19-18 up in 2019 before Higson got himself binned leading to a winning try for KR. 2017 I seem to remember Abdul absolutely kicking us to death to win 23-10 which was the widest result, the other 4 were no more than 6 points in it and 4 of them also involved drop goals.

Cheers Rob, knew it had been announced but couldn’t remember what it was. Would fairly safely predict that it’s Leigh’s biggest gate at an equivalent stage for donkey’s years. Presumably Craig Hall is eaglerly awaiting Fev’s share.

Yes I would think so, certainly can't think of any bigger crowds in recent years at this stage. I find it very encouraging to see the numbers in the east stand steadily growing too, seems to be quite a few building habits and becoming regulars in a stand that has probably been used less than 10 times prior to last season for Leigh games. Makes the ground seem a lot fuller when we have all 4 sides populated.

Missed the attendance being announced at Leigh game but certainly 4,000+ with c200 Fev fans. Absolutely unheard of in the modern era tbh. Particularly when it was £20 for season tickets and £25 general sale so arguably not a reduced price compared to what we were paying in the Championship.

On the field, I think Fev, Batley and Sheffield have shown that there should be a much greater exposure of Super League v Non-SL ties
