Wigan play a very structured style, all the players understand the structure, within that you get maverick flair.
Recently Wigan have had constant changes ( disrupts the structure if you are not as drilled as the missing players) and French has been playing whilst injured.
Wigan will once again prove to be rocksolid come end of season.
Here's the thing, you're more right than wrong and I've never being more desparing for RL than this instant.

Tbf this is one of the few Cas matches I've actively chosen not to watch. (don't live in Sunny Cas anymore). RL isn't a good 80 minutes when your team is not so good. 10% off and it's a blood bath.
If your team is struggling from the season start then there's not a lot to go on entertainment wise.
However, that teams that make their own luck just kills me. I'm old enough to remember Cas playing in 2017 and receiving many nothing penalties for nowt. No idea why a team who were being dominated were being penalised for no obvious offence. Didn't add anything to the contest.
So would I have been entertained tonight? Yes, a good game despite the inevitable result.
But for the sake of the popularity of the game do not kill the spectacle when /if it is not necessary.
I'm not talking about manipulating results. I'm saying don't go out of your way to kill the game, teams should absolutely not make their own luck.
I'm thinking this does not make the product on the pitch anymore popular to the passing observer(or does it?)
Anyway, well done Wigan tonight and i'm hoping the GF isn't a tedious slog where I'm checking FB for something to do.
Some interesting games tonight but I'm still miserable though

It was a terrible call, but Cas still had opportunities to win that
Well that's OK then....

Don't worry about Wigan they will still probably win the GF.
If the GF is a slow motion tedious display of ptb interference resulting in..... Ohhh let's say a Wigan win over let's say... HKR, I would be a touch depressed and I don't think our game would gain anything from such a scenario. Tbf though, I'm not a Wigan, Saints or Leeds fan so what do I know.

How can he say there's no pull back there
That's incredible when we are all seeing Smith do it.
The best teams make their own luck. It really doesn't help the product on the pitch though.

Who is responsible for both clubs being at home on the same night?
Used to be Corbyn but probably Starmer these days.

One of my favourite ever visits, was when I went to Naples museum on a day from a cruise. I had no idea it was where they kept a lot of the Pompeii stuff.
The thing that struck me the most was seeing the medical instruments and how precise they were but also how much they looked like modern examples.
Even now Naples Museum is still my favourite. As so often though, if you know what you are looking at it's a real help, but you can't know everything!

Just mentioned on R4 now. What a thing!

The players must have been knackered by the end, two tries and one penalty. Is there a 'ball in play' figure for this match? Thinking it must be a big number.

I do think the game is easier to watch with quicker Ptbs irrespective of how skilled the interference.
Wire Score!

For Cas, managing to get three Kiwi internationals in the squad at the same time was amazing. Tawera Nikau, Ritchie Blackmore and Tony Kemp in the same team - so exciting to watch.
Yes but I had such a lot of time for Lee Crooks.
Some fun there!

Yesterday from Simon Yates was one of the greatest performances I've ever seen in a Grand Tour stage.
Only has to stay upright today into Rome and the Trofea Senza Fine is his, what an achievement.
But what was del Toro doing? Weird. Great Stuff otherwise!

Oh, I have no doubt the games are likely to be better.
I just don't think "The Spectacle

Anyone? It's 30°C in Braga and I'm struggling for my RL fix!
Crikey I'm on the wrong day. Still, endless wendyball in Portugal. Does it ever stop?

Nice from Field in skirting across and pushing off like a jack-in-the-box to get to an edge for Wigan's last try. Very weak defence on the slippery fullback though.
Cats are tough to watch. Seemed to be a good crowd and a nice evening down there, but the football they are watching is sadly pretty dire. Hope they get in a good coach, because it's a big ask.
As a Cas fan RL is a tough watch when your team is clearly second best. 10% off and it's an 80 minute blood bath. People get off on this but I do wonder if this helps the game.

You have said that attacking players slipping into contact are the hardest to judge and still as last night the adjudication goes in their favour, so what do you suggest players do to change their tackling technique in respect that they have aimed and in the motion of what would be a very legal tackle and would not have a clue that an attacker is going to slip or duck at virtually the moment of contact?
I keep hearing this 'Change the technique' but nothing of any substance in what the defenders can do, how about stop tackling if it wants avoiding completely.
Or to put it another way, if the Authorities simply penalise a defender for something unavoidable/accidental caused by the ball carrier slipping then I'm wondering what that does to make the game safer. Anything?
In fact if it is simply virtue signalling whilst players still get hurt then it seems cynical to penalise an otherwise innocent defender knowing it will achieve nothing as regards safety and still claim the moral high ground.
Ball carriers will still slip into defenders and defenders will still be penalised and the game is no safer.
Is cynical too strong a word?
What to do about it?
Helmets?
Stop players running at each other?
Grim.

According to the BBC site Cas are 4 points behind Wire but only 14 on points difference! Can't be right surely? How strange.

I came across this article about Tim Smith and just had to share as I think it's one of the best RL articles I've read. It's a long one but we'll worth a read.
I actually remember when he came to Wigan and it was very obvious that there were a lot of issues there with various off field incidents. When he first signed he was sat directly in front of me watching the game and he just couldn't stop or settle. Interesting to hear too how he enjoyed his time at Wakefield when all the pressure was off.
It's great to see him turn his life around and I think there are a lot of lessons in there for people:
It's not that Tim Smith doesn't think about it. Anyone would think about it, from time to time. It just doesn't get to him anymore.
The 2005 Dally M Rookie of the Year, the ultimate rookie of the year, the greatest rookie rugby league has ever seen and perhaps will ever see, turned 40 years old in 2025.
It's a big birthday for anyone, but has a special resonance for Smith because of the 40 try assists he put together during that debut season with Parramatta, an NRL record that will likely never be broken.
Such a breath of fresh air as regards the ptb. Why have we allowed our game to be reduced to the present tedious ugly grub fest? (only for the Ref to penalise a valid ptb?).
-
My problem is that a match highlight is followed by a match from the week or two before which means you have to drop out and restart again. It can't be that hard for the BBC to suss this. Maybe it isn't. Is this just me? I do find it hard work when it shouldn't be.

Unfortunately I'm trapped in a Harrogate Pub, forced to drink hand pumped Bitter! Please feel free to make my life bearable by regular updates. As a Cas fan just make some stuff up if you feel you have to. Cheers!

The VR actually said that the Saints man knocked it onto the Wire hand.
Jeez, worrying lack of on-the-fly awareness.
Can't hear the commentary at the pub but for what it's worth...
The saints player got the ball, then the Wire player, then the saints player played the ball back out of the wire hands: play on. Wire picked up the ball and scored.
No, I haven't got my spex and No, I'm not drunk and No, I'm not convinced but that's what I thought happened.

I'd argue that this applies to all dominant teams, and this really does not help the game from an entertainment point of view.
