I thought I'd take a look at this stream this evening, and flicked through it just now taking in a minute or so then skipping forward 5 or 10 minutes.

How reassuring to skip to a random point and be immediately greeted by a shout from the sidelines of "off-side, all off-side". How fantastically rugby league in suburban Belgrade.

It made me laugh anyway 🤣

But how great is it. ? They've been battering away at each other in Serbia for 20 years playing community rugby league, and over the past decade they've built on what they've got and promoted expansion to other neighboring countries. Its just amazing to see.

18 minute games, bands between games, races between players between games. Twelve SL teams plus four teams whuch could include a League 1 select team, an Army team or Jamaica (or other international teams). A try between the posts is 5 points, a designated player who plays a in different colour shirt had his tries worth 6 points, power plays after tries etc. Apparently we just have to 'market' it properly and it would work. The Hearns could run it.

The whole thing screams gimmick as you say. Not sure if it could be done in a meaningful way, but if if wasn't anything like above, it would be embarrassing.

Could we put some sort of Mario cart style power ups on the pitch that allowed players to sprint faster, or perhaps allowed them to fire shells or banana skins at the opposition's full back?

  3. There needs to be something to even this division up for sure. It's easy to see why old clubs nearer the vast number of community and academy players do better than those that arent in a semi pro division. You can also, not quiet but almost, draw a circle round the most densly populated league player pools and just order the table based on distance from that at the start of the season, rather than play any matches. I'm not going to lie, it's actually put me off driving to the game the other week when other commitments meant it would have been a bit tight to get there in time, knowing the result beforehand.

    Is that the rumour?

    It is now 🙂

I heard it as wild speculation a few weeks back now the raiders haveva large hole there next year. He's so good the nrl clubs must be sniffing around. In less troubled times I suspect there would be wild speculation he'd be going to union! Thank god that door's closed.

I think Wardle is probably the safer bet at the moment.

Wasn’t there talk of Dom Young wanting to play centre going forward (assuming at the Roosters)?

I'm struggling to see how young would make a great centre. Someone even talked about him wanting to full back I'm sure at some point. He'd have to change his game so much he'd lose a lot surely

  6. I suspect if we only allowed women to post on threads re women's rugby league, or at least limited the number of men posting on the women's game to fewer than ppsts by men, this thread would be very much shorter. Or perhaps with less pedantic willy waving.

Is that the same Ryan Hall who scored a hat trick over the weekend and still makes very few handling errors?..... while Young tends to make multiple handling errors each game.

Now Hall has probably retired from England i would still have Young in the squad behind Makemson and Johnson- both of who are top class and alongside someone like Marshall.  Hope the lad keeps improving.

Amazing. I mean there is positive bias for, or against, the super league and NRL, which is perfectly reasonable and open for debate. Then there is this level of hatred against anyone who doesn't  play in super league. Part of the reason we are so sH1+.

  8. Yes watched it. Depressing viewing. Although a lot is probably correct. However some of it was certainly not. "Why do we have to care about the international game? Does the NFL care about growing internationally?" The guy needs to know what he's talking about before he comments on it.

I suspect he's sort of right re the no nrl in 15 years thing. It wouldn't be dead but it would not be anything like it is (and before everyone piles in and says I love the NRL, I do. But I don't hate SL. Or the levels below. I do think the pro game here would be on borrowed time without the nrl.  But without a growing international presence for League, the NRL won't be what it is in 50 years time. Sydney is on track to be bigger than London. That looks a nice little place to stage a few NFL games in 15 years time? Ultimately soccer will swamp everything in Sydney. Etc.

The really worrying thing for me is the night before he was slagging off the Panthers for having no class and that (which no one outside Sydney gives a 5hi+ about) went mad on twitter, with quarter of a million views. And lots of shouty people.

    This? Pretty much nothing comparatively!

Why are people mocking BSL? Sure it is an amateur grassroots competition....

I think that is the very reason they should be praised. They've been turning over a steady community comp for a couple of decades now. Where else in the world could claim that?

  10. At some point in the not too distant future someone at the NRL will think this is a good idea and a team branded as GB or England made up of soley oz based players will play Fiji or the like in Sydney.

This will be the start of the end of the IRL and the shrinking of English influence on the world game.

They played Canberra (won), Brisbane and Canterbury (both lost) - decent crowds, for London, I recall.

The canberra game was fantastic. I remember watching it atvtge time, but I dontbyhink it was live most likely a mud week repeat on sky. But I found it on YouTube a few years back and watched again.

Shaun Edwards came on as a sub and seem to completely change the match around. What a player!
