  1. There is a photograph of me in a Challenge Cup Final program wearing a large flat cap leant on a wall reading the previous years program.

Flat cap, we did it 20 odd years ago, coach load of 56.

    Try and be original.

No he would have to share his pie with it, look where he comes from.

  2. Having nothing better to do today I re watched the Workington game and I noticed on several occasions Mr. Robin Evans wearing a suit and tie. As far as I know courts aren't open on a Sunday so I can only think he was having a prawn sandwhich at half time.
  3. Rovers 46 Whitehaven 12

I really am no good at predicting scores and I do NOT wish to disrespect our opponents as I have always felt they were worthy of their league placements. McNally can be a handful, but at the Recreation Ground last year he was made ineffectual. I know he can be a good player, but he is not a strike player, just a preditor. Some of the long standing players Leroy & co may find the pace getting to them as I believe the game is quicker than last season ( I know we have players of the same age). I hope for a good performance, and it will be interesting to see if we can maintain our start. I hope so, but it would not surprise me to see Whitehaven use tghis game as a catalyst for their season.

  4. i will read it Stuart, it's a godsend for those of us unable to get to a game. Thanks very much mate and your commentaries are not too bad at all, better than a balding ex club volunteer, who shall be nameless. It's not as easy as some think so thank you for stepping in and giving us the insight of the game. If you can get my wheelchair on the gantry sometime I'll give you a hand :D
  5. Possibly another section that should be included in requirements for a franchise -

"It was Wigan coach Michael Maguire's first visit to the Jungle and he seemed less than impressed with the surroundings.

The Wigan team opted not to use facilities at the ground, arriving already changed and showering elsewhere afterwards."

    YEP 22/03/10

If you think the Jungle is bad, you should see the facilities at Salford.

  6. I have followed this thread with interest and many have sound ideas, however, one of the MAJOR problems with young people today is that there are too many "easy" options for them. Many would prefer to sit playing on their PC's i pods games machines or whatever, than to go out on a cold day to watch a live game. I agree we do have to attract more fans . Back in the 50's and 60's we had active supporters branches throughout the area, the one in Hemsworth was operated by my late father. We were offered a group rate for home games which meant we took around 40 - 50 on a regular basis, although transport today is much easier than then. When my dad became a volunteer, he would sit me on the crossbar of his bike and we would cycle from Hemsworth, remember this was through the winter. The attraction was the game, the fact that the teams and fans intergrated and worked with each other.

The experiment of free child tickets has been tried over and over and with a home and away season ticket costing just

  7. Sorry to hear that Colin, terry was a good supporter of Rovers and we have to thank him for many electrical repairs and equipment donated to the club. Thank you for letting us know of his passing and may God bless his soul in eternal peace.
  8. I was'nt there so I wont make comments about what did or didn't happen last night, however, rugby league is a family game. Not just in the biblical sense , mum dad two kids, but the fact we all are members of an elite family who support a great team game. The esscence of which means that we accept victory and defat in the same spirit. That is why our game survives. There is NO room available to those who seek to disparage the game in any way shape or form . I would therefore ask all forum contributors to bear this in mind when replying to posts. Many Barrow fans have been generous in their comments and I believe we should accept them with good grace and humility. This is NOT big brother, just a simple request from one who is envious at not being able to attend games at this time.
  9. If a section of the community stand were to be altered for standing, then those sat down would have a job viewing the pitch. Also standing patrons usually move around slightly. I loved the Bullock shed but the view from the Community stand is one of the best in the league.
  10. No doubt you will compete for the first 20 mins, but after that i expect our superior fitness to pay dividends!

I do too which means that bthe magic of the challenge cup has deminshed somewhat. Surely the competition was much better when the meak could beat the strong. Rovers will play with compassion and dignity and give our very best

  11. As many of you know I have a seriuos condition at present and currently I'm bedridden, following a visit to hospital by Vic Johnson, I received this morning, DVD's of Rovers' games and a get well card signed by the staff and players of the club. I can't explain the joy and boost this has given me and once again proves just what a great club Rovers are. We may all grumble about certain things at times, but the important things tend to bring things to the fore.

I hope to be able to be fit enough to get out around the middle of May, but I'm still around and thank everyone for their ongoing kindness.

  12. Firstly thank

you all for your good wishes, and I was especially pleased to see Vic Johnson it was a great morale booster he bought a copy of your posts and I was overwhelmed by your kindness. I am home now after a great deal of negotiation ( they wanted me to go in the hospice ) however it will be a little while until I can rejoinn you at Bigfellas. I have set goals, firstly to get back to see a game live and to watch Rovers in the Grand final ( sorry Robin ) I may have to get sky to see it though. I look forward to perusing the forum regularly and may I offer my very best wishes I was lucky enough to be in a ward with a Cas lad, you will be pleased to knowI won that little batle especially after he told a nurse " there"s no paper in the Bog" i replied you' got a Cas shirt now cut it up and put it to it's intended use . The other funny thing was Vic cme in wearing his chaplain suit. one of my fellow patients thought he was giving me last rites, I told him he was checking whether it was worth going home.

Thanks once again, I'm going to try and get the dvd's so I can comment on the games.

god bless you all and a big thanks to Rory Loxton for the visiting and match updates last Sunday, the whole ward knew more about JJP than Daryl Powelll by the end.
