  1. Quote from 'Nosey Parker' column today, .......'Many former players will be in attendance with John Freeman, Dame Shirley Bassey's cousin by marriage' .......... In wales this makes him famous? :D Who are you related to that we might want to come and see you.

My uncle Des was married to the sister of former newsreader Leonard Parkin ( who came from Upton). My niece is married to the grandson of Sir Bernard Lovell, I was the coach driver for Grimethorpe Colliery Band for many years until I became a manager. Oh yes ( this is perfectly true ) I once danced with the Kirov Ballet at The Royall Opera House Covent Garden, in the presence of HRH The Princess of Wales and Princess Margaret. Do I get a Blue ( and white) peter badges.

  2. We are stuck with squad numbers but I had a thought and I would like to hear or read the thoughts of other fans.

This season has quite rightly been dedicated to Gareth Swift and his squad number has never been re- issued, this to many fans and players has been inspirational and has given the club a focus to aim for. Wigan use the number 18 shirt as a tribute to it's fans and do not issue that to a player.

I wondered if the club might think about not issuing the no. 25 shirt to a player next season, but dedicate it to the past players bo longer with us. Recently we lost Carl Dooler and before that Don Fox. This would then mean that should we lose past players then they can become part of our no. 25 squad. I'm not being macabre, I just feel that when we pay tribute to past players with a mark of respect, we could also carry the no.25 shirt as a tribute from the club and the fans.

You may well have other thoughts or ideas, I would ask for those thoughts, which you may or may not agree with, all ideas good and bad start somehwere so let's get the ball rolling.

  3. Colin can you p.m. me with your address please I will gladly send off a contribution for you and also who do I make the cheque out to ? As you know I can't get to the ground but I will do all I can to honour my pledge to Rob. A worthwhile and very much deserved accolade.
  4. At least the Sheffield fans wont be bad losers will they, and anyway Mark Aston came over and had a few words with me when we played here in the league. The guy told me to keep fighting and offered words of encouragement, I was knocked out that he took the time before the game . Apart from that I want to be able to overturn our last result against them, don't you ?
  5. Confirmation that the club is getting to a point which the RFL cannot ignore. The wonderful achievements over the last three years is phenominal and credit has to go to the BOD and our chief Executive Andy Prout. Their job has not been an easy one, but we really can now say " The Future's Bright, It's Blue and White".
  6. There will be enough tickets to go round for everyone who wants to go, the finals will not be a full house so let's not get into hypothetical questions and answers and welcome all who want to support the team at Warrington. However, it is the fans who buy season tickets who set the season off for the club and I really do wish we could sell 1,000 every season.
  7. I want you all to sit down , r e l a x and gently close your eyes ( sod it you can't see what I write next then can you ?) take a deep slow breath in and hold for thre seconds, gently let the breath flow out and repeat the exercise. After five minutes you then pick up a small glass and pour a small whisky ( Whiskey for Lorne) into it and place the glass rim between your lips. Salivating as the liquid enters your mouth. When you have completed this process, then repeat several times until you begin to feel light headed. Then stop, you won't be cured of your nerves , but I can promise you, you won't be bothered either. Have a great night you all deserve it.
  8. I'm going to sit on my bed and wear my CHAMPIONS 2010 cap and I don't care who see's me, if you wave for me I'll wave back.

Wish I could be there, but my heart will be and my joy if we get through first time will light up the sky.

  9. The referee can and of course is an important factor in the result of a game, however, if we play the game and don't give away silly penalties, we don't transgress on the field, then we can win. Without referee's we have no game, and I admit to being a friend of Robert Hicks, so would many of you if you met him socially, he's a good guy. He admitted to me when I met him at the Sheffield game, that he and his colleagues got things wrong, and they do not go out to right a wrong, but given the circumstances of today's fast moving game, they get most things right. The Video ref is almost certain to be Stuart Cummings so he is under scrutiny from the start. If we play as we can do, then the referee is superficial and we should be concentrating on supporting the team from start to finish.

Having said that I hope we don't hear any comments about the referee on Friday.

  10. This isn't about Harlequins or the RFL it's about keeping the finances coming into rugby league. London, hosts FIVE premiership football teams and countless championship teams. It is a gold mine for investors if marketed properly. The News Coporation money keeps our game alive and we as folowers, are slaves to that money, we have no choice. To have a top London team would be the pinacle of making taking the game to the Nation, there is a very large Antipodean community in that area . It is not about saving the Doncasters or Whitehavens it's about bringing the game to the National stage.

Having said all that, which I believe to be true, but I don't necessarily agree with, Who are News Corporation ? Well apart from SKY tv they own countless newspapers and magazines, many of which don't bother even reporting the games played . They have T.V stations which for the sake of a few quid , could advertise the big games , but they only advertise the one's which will be shown on their channels. I welcomed the London teams to the game when they emerged in the 1970's, I thought it was great that the game was spreading and would bring about exciting changes to the game, it didn't though. London have had over 30 years to make a go of it, they have been Nomadic ( although London is expensive) they have shown that talent is available, but until they can get rugby league into schools, then there will always be an uphill battle.

As for Whitehaven , well there's always plenty of fans to follow the game in Cumbria, Doncaster ? not many fans, but those that are there are faithful. Ask most Super League fans about Featherstone or Halifax or Leigh and they look over their glasses in disgust that we should mention them in the same vein . Any team given the privilege of three years to build can do a crusaders, if the will is there. The Sky team say the season's climax is exciting, but how much more exciting it would have been if the clubs were not only playing for a play off place, but their future as well.

The goal posts are moved every year, the stipulation of being more than a certain number of miles from another club seems to have disappeared, (thanks to Crusaders) which leads us to believe that there is a conspiracy ( what a daft idea anyway when a Derby always attracts better crowds). The romance of the game, for me anyway, has always been that David ( Rovers) could always pit it's whits against Goliath ( Leeds, Wigan Saints) and come out on top.

I love the game, I hate the way it's being disected , but without the money it doesn't exist, so harlequins, Catalan and Toulouse will all survive, no matter what.

    Romance has just died.

  11. Well done to you all, and can I just say how pleased I am that paull and Margret Coventry have been given an acolade for the fine work they still do for the club. Well done to all the winners, but let's face it, there are NO losers at the club this year.

By the way Martin, I'm practising my "comedy" routine for next season mate if your short of a few laughs :D:D

My new act is called "Squeals on wheels"

My son was very worried yesterday, he took me out shopping and because I take so much medication, he was worried he would be caught drug pushing.

A big thank you to all the FRISA people and to the Joint Supporters group who epitomise everything that is good about the club and it's supporters.

  12. It has always been my one bone of contention that our lights are not as good as they should be, but we have to be realistic, how many games a season do we need to play under lights? and would the immense cost of replacing them be justified ? I am now doing a new line in night vision goggles which I will have on sale by the Freddie Miller gate on Thursday,
