  1. I'm hoping to get to this game ( if my medics allow me to drive) for a change. No matter what people may say, Barrow must be respected as they are the current Grand Final winners. We have to overcome a period of inactivity and we may be a bit rusty to start. I do, however, know we will prevail and I offer

Rovers 42 Barrow 18 as a forecast.

I've never been near in the past though :D:D

  2. As a young lad (13) I was helping my dad collect car parking fees and helping fans to park. Just as the game was about to kick off two cars came to the car park In the first was Eric Clay and my dad sent him straight through. The next car contained Eddie Waring. I was collecting as well and my dad ( not knowing who was in the car) signalled that there was no room left. I told Eddie this and he asked " You do know who I am don't you" I replied the voice was familiar but I couldn't place his face. He then asked where he could put his car ? Before I could answer my dad took control and allowed him to park . He was put partially on a grass verge. He began to walk to the entrance when I called him back and reminded hin he hadn't paid his 6p. He gave me a shilling and asked who was in the car in front. When I told him it was Eric Clay, he said " Well he's not reffing today is he ?" I replied " No and if tha doesn't get a move on thy won't be reporting either " He laughed. I met him some years later and recounted the meeting, but he took it like a gentleman. He wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but he made rugby league followable throughout the country.
  3. Well thanks to you lot our season will end on sunday -_-

i suppose i will have to make a trip to P.O.R to see some rugby.

All you needed was ONE point... :D

We're in the Doghouse again, the trouble was that Batley on their day can beat anybody.

"Who Kicked the dogs out ?"

  4. I think that Hunslet have shown remarkable fortitude to come back from a nearly going out of business. Well Done to all concerned and I for one don't mind who now plays for them, but I do look forward to meeting " old" friends again. The players who won the title are Hunslet hawks players, not Featherstone Rovers discards, and very proud of their success they must feel. we as a club, can claim no credit for their victory, but as rugby league fans we should congratulate them.
  5. Because most clubs have computer attached entries, it is quite usual for a member of the visiting club to be there at the count. Most clubs just check the start and finish numbers, but I would imagine that there has to be honour and dignity within clubs.
  6. jonny grayson and kyle briggs in danger of finding new careers hahaha

    kyle bobo briggs

    and

    jonny gingles grayson

Yes but think of the thrill the kids get from working with the lads and the reputation the club is gaining as a community club. It starts small but we can only get bigger and better through it.

  7. I believe it depends on individuals as to how they deal with things. One aspect I used to teach is "distraction" techniques. These are used by people who have painful and chronic conditions. The idea is to substitute the feeling of pain by differential thinking. It is too complicated to go into on a forum here, but does it work ? The answer is Yes because I have to live with a chronic condition everyday and without it I couldn't manage. It's not about me, it's just an example that it might work for some , but not for others.
  8. We have all moaned about the lack of publicity the club's efforts have attracted, I am not in favour of Trophies won throughout the season being awared at events which do not include the loyal fans. However, if the club can attract the publicity and demeanour through it, then we can focus on our sponsorships for next season, for our income streams for next season and for the long term future of the club. Now taking that into consideration which suits better showing the trophy to guests on Saturday first or attracting more income for next season? That's what it is all about, I don't feel snubbed, I feel that the club are looking after the future of the club, let's clear our minds and support them as we have done all year and thank God we have good people working hard to make us a sucess.
  9. I too want the F factor show to be a huge sucess and after all the hard work, it certainly deserves to be. I also want the hard working and loyal fans to have their part in following the team/club all season recognised. We DO need the type of show which is being put on on Saturday, it is NEITHER pointless nor a waste of space, it is , as many have remarked, another way od generating income for the club, a vital one at that too. To keep generating income is part and parcel of the new "rules" for applying for Super League, so it all ties in. I don't particularly like the fact that the "Trophy" is being presented to an audience which may not be representative of our club, but that audience will bring in much needed income streams to help the club go forward. The main thing is, We've achieved 50% of what we started out to do, the biggest fight is now on after the 22nd August, that's to reach the Grand Final and hopefully win it. Let's put our energies into that, let's show the RFL that we mean business, let's show the rugby league World, that Featherstone Rovers are here and we are not going away. As for the shield ? who cares ? the record books show we won it that's what really matters.
  10. I can see this being a source of controversy, many who attend the F factor will not have seen a game of rugby, many fans who have followed through thick and thin I don't mean me) will miss out on seeing an award given to the team.

However Miss chief 7 posts in three years ? beware of er'mischief making

  11. it is up to the clubs and the RFL media section to inform the media about sucess and awards. We can't always blame the TV companies for missing it. perhaps they may feel that a showing might be better when the shield is actually presented might go better.
  12. I sat at home listening to the game on radio Leeds, as the game entered it's last 10 minutes, my wife joined me to listen ( she doesn't particularly follow the game) when the last try went in I began to weep tears of happiness for the team and you, the fans, my wife also felt the excitement of the last few minutes. That was an incredible experience, even though over the years I have had many.

My thoughts immediately went to those who have followed Rovers through thick and thin and I salute you all.,

  13. Yes Matthew, I know and we all knew the rules at the outset but it's a nonsense obviously. Does that make it right for the future? If I thought his praise was in the slightest sincere I'd be confident he would change things for next season. Time will tell.

Nigel did qualify his remarks by stating that Featherstone know the job is not yet done and that the champions will be the one's who win the Grand Final.

  14. How can I put this without sounding over the top ?

As many of you are aware my health has deteriorated rapidly over the last two years, so much so that I can no longer walk or stand and I require oxygen 24 hours a day. I was a volunteer for the club until then, the reason I became a volunteer in the first place was because in 1997 I suffered 3 heart attacks within 10 days. During that time I was just a fan going through the gates like any other supporter. However, the club heard about me being ill and sent signed cards from the players and Terry Mullaney sent videos of games I was missing. When I was well enough I was invited to watch rovers as a guest for the club. That is the reason I wanted to do something back in return. All went well up until two years ago, when I thought I had a bad cold, it turned out that it was a little more serious. I informed the then chairman Paul Coventry that I would need to step down in order to preserve the standards being set in the club's hospitality, Paul encouraged me to stay until the season end. I'm glad he did, because I met some wonderful people associated with the club at an exciting time for the club. The reason I mention this is because they have become the inspiration for me in a fight against my condition. Vic Johnson would be the last person to seek any praise, however, I'm going to give him some. Back in Februaury I was hospitalised, but Vic turned up in his working regalia and gave me comfort at a time I thought was close to the end, I recovered but subsequently I still have problems. The club, however, have not given up on me, they regularly contact me to enquire about my well being, they send me DVD's of games when I can't get, and they actively encourage me to attend the games, which can be problamatic. When I enter the ground I'm treated like a long lost son . One of the first people to contact me was Chris Westwood, not every one agrees with Chri's views, but let me tell you this the guy is genuine and has invited me to sit in the press box anytime it's too cold outside. The biggest plus though are you the fans, Richard Taylor made regular visits to hospital even tying a rovers scarf to my bed ( that's why I'm getting better). The telephone calls the email the p.m's the rollockings as a moderator, all make me feel part of the team

Like Vic I wish you all well, I thank God for being part of such a great club and no matter what the future holds, I know the future really is bright, but with the lights being held by the fans and officials at the club, then brightness will be with us no matter what.

God Bless you all ( even if we disagree) you are the salt of the earth and deserve all which will come to you in the future.

  15. This is hit the nail on the head time Vic and you've spotted it. At last we now know that the game isn't about being the best or at least striving to be the best, it's about who can con the RFL that they will have bigger, better stadia, who can attract big money signings from overseas, who can speak French with an Antipodean accent. No longer will the romance of small town teams winning games against the money made teams be available. It is all about which team can rent the best arena to play in. How many Super League teams actually own their own grounds ? Should that be a criteria for licencing ? Why when the premier league in soccer, allows teams to me on each other's doorstep ( Chelsea/Fulham Arsenal/Spurs ?West Ham Bolton? Burnley, Utd?City) does the RFL insist that we have to be more than 20 miles apart ? Why are French teams who bring very few supporters to the English games, being held up as the future ? Will it make the England team stronger? Has competition for places in Super League become academic. I noted that we have an Aussie running part of the compliance team at Red Hall.

Above all when will the RFL remember that it is the clubs such as Featherstone, Batley, Dewsbury Hunslet Leigh etc, who kept the game flowing in the difficult 60's when big city teams such as Bradford couldn't ?

Fairness,? never that is probably why the championship clubs lose supporters, because there is very little hope for them, especially as the goal posts have now moved again saying that the clubs must have an average of 2500 per game, how can this happen when we have teams in the South of France and South wales playing in the leagues and who bring hardly any of their supporters. This becomes ###### for tat, no prospects, no supporters, no licence.

I now await for the newset competition in rugby league, namely which current Super league club can tell the biggest proky regarding their new premises. It should be interesting.

  16. Keep calm, and enjoy the occasion, win or lose, it's only a game and I am so confident that we will be champions, that I am putting on me outdoorclothes and wearing a White Rose, I'm on me way to Big Fellas.
