So our super league stars, who could be international quality be potential play against semi pro outsits from the championship if there team finishes outside the top 8?? ... Ie-Halifax, feartherstone, Sheffield,Batley???
I'm sure rangi chase can't wait to test himself at mount pleasant
Not sure that's the kind of standard he wants to play at
Unless I've got this all wrong???
The aim is that Championship go full time as well. Jon Wilkin mentioned that a few months ago too in his players union interview (mentioned something about giving players a second chance at full time).
This new system is just the end of year play offs I understand, so if Chase' team did finish below 9th theyd still be playing instead of the 5 week break before internationals.... surely that point is a winner?

I don't think so Matt
The decision has been taken in good faith, as with other decisions.
That's all that people can expect.
That's,what makes this decision along with past decision fair and just, whether people agree with it or not.
Now's the time to sit back, see what happens and enjoy our rugby league.
A strong second tier is what the game has been crying out for for years. This gives us the best shot, Toulouse can join this second tier and develop properly.

Well isnt this pretty.
Does this mean those that want franchising are now the flat-earthers and parochial?

Student Finance shouldnt employ Scottish lads to work the phone.

If Tomkins plays in his club position of full-back, which I think he should, we look really weak at half-back. Robinson is a hooker nowadays. I think Engalnd may well take a hammering. I don't think Steve Mac's up to it either, unenviable task though it is.
I think we look shallow in the halves, but other than Eastmond who's injured, who else is there?
McGuire, Burrow, Deacon? Danny Orr!? Whats Richard Horne been doing this year?

So will there be a larger Championship?
-
Well from what I saw on Sunday Oldham didn't seem to have a clue how to break down the York defence.
Oldhams stand off found himself in the Championship One team of the year, I have no idea how on what I saw in the final.

Ho hum....one more time...you just dont get it do you? You won the league leaders shield. Halifax are the Champions. How can you have two winners of the same competition?
But if you want to continue looking stupid and proclaim that you are "champions" then go ahead. Shame next year no one will remember you won the league leaders shield, but everone will remember Fax as champions.
And now that everyone is successfully in a 'Fax are champions' induced heavy sleep, time to wrap it up.
-
Just one word
CHAMPIONS
Yes... but who
-
The only shame is the ground 2 traditional ones replaced with ones you needs binoculars to see the game hmmm
I've heard part of the great expansion of the game, they're actually putting more clubs in Lancashire
-
Jesus Christ, this is going round in circles at the minute, doesn't make for an interesting thread.
Halifax are the Championship Champions.
Featherstone are the league winners (IE. Champions of the league campaign)
Halifax won the Big One, but are suffering from 'look at me' syndrome and cant stand anyone else celebrating something won in their league.
Unless we see a change around in the thread's course, it'll have to be closed.

-
How shocking is this sport, Batley can celebrate a tinpot win, but we're not allowed to celebrate winning the league part of the campaign, we didn't win the big one (controversially...) but no amount of bitching and moaning from Halifax will stop us enjoying winning a trophy.
-
You cannot compare the two.
When SL was founded the split between to two was sealed for ever.
But it shouldn't.
After reading peoples views on it, I can see why a neutral would love the sudden death of the game, but for me, RL is a battle for 80 minutes, it shouldn't be decided with a sudden kick, it should be over 10 minute spells.

Might as well rename it the Yorkshire league!
You're gonna be very lonely when Widnes and Wakefield exchange places

Hillsborough wasn't caused by smokers. It was caused by the police.
Think he means Bradford
-
My dad was a heavy smoker (pipe), he was aslso a miner. In the old days miners took Gallaghers Black Twist down the mine with them. Then when they wanted a nicotine fix they chewed it. Is this the solution for smokers? Take a wad of rolled tobacco with you and enjoy a good chew. No problems!
Whats the law on these?

Anyone know?

drop goal shoot out for me- i saw a union game decided like this
Thats all Rugby Union matches
-
what kind of stadium is wakey going for????
A nice boxy one -_-
-
The rules are the same for both sides. Unfortunately Fev let the lead slip and Halifax took advantage. Live with it!
That's not the point though is it.
-
If the game HAS to be settled on the day then it has to be a golden try for me. Golden point just results in a drop goal competition. If the try isn't forthcoming then what about each team having to remove one player after a set period of time to create more space on the field and open up play?
Exactly! we broke away from that in 1895, just an empty feeling, sure its not for Halifax though.
-
We did blow them away in the second half and at 22-4 the game was won, but we continued to play the same way because we (me included) expected to build on that score. and we almost did. Maybe that's the lesson in these critical games, secure the result first by a drop goal or two then re-open the play.
Barrie McDermott said 'you only need to win the game once', we should have gone for the 1pt and just drill the ball dead every time.

I'm guessing here, but, I think this system is a temporary measure to try and bring the quality of the leagues closer together before moving onto a more traditional leafue structure.
The top 4 championship clubs playing Super League quality teams will be better for the game when the Championship clubs experience that top flight competition.
