Scotland and Italy shared 60 points in an end-to-end encounter at Derwent Park.
After the Scots had come out of the half-time break with a two-point lead it went score for score with Danny Addy the first over in the second half after good work from Ben Hellewell and Brett Carter following a Danny Brough kick.
Italy hit back when man of the Match Raymond Nasso scampered over for his second try, Scotland responding with Hellwell scoring after more good work from Carter.
The Azzurri took advantage of a goal line drop out for Chris Centrone to score and when Anthony Minichiello went over, with a Josh Mantellato conversion tagged on, the Italians took the lead for the first time.
Hellewell grabbed his second try after a great Scottish handling move but with Brough missing the conversion it left the scores tied.
Both sides tried field goals attempts, but both were from distance and neither were anywhere near as time ran out for both countries.
