Gallen set to finish career in Australia, not Super League

Cronulla captain Paul Gallen is unlikely to make the move to Super League at the end of his career, after it emerged that he is close to penning a new deal with the Sharks.

Reports in Australia suggest Gallen will sign a new one-year deal with the club, with Sharks chief executive Lyall Gorman telling the Canberra Times they are hopeful a deal can be struck soon.

“Nothing has been signed off on at the moment but we are very optimistic that will happen soon,” Gorman said.

“There has been some great progress made in negotiations and we have always made it clear from day one that Gal is an incredibly valuable part of our club’s history and future. At this stage nothing has been finalised but the signs are very positive.”

That would end any talk of Gallen heading to England and playing in Super League.
