Gaskell extends Giants contract

Lee Gaskell has signed a new deal with Huddersfield Giants.

The halfback has agreed a 12-month extension to his current deal, which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2021 season.

Gaskell was off-contract at the end of the season and his availability would have no doubt attracted the interest of several Super League clubs after an impressive 2019 season.

He finished in the top ten of last year’s Man Of Steel standings following his best season to date for the Giants and he recaptured that form at the start of the 2020 season, developing an exciting partnership with Australian halfback Aidan Sezer, with Huddersfield winning four of their opening five Super League games.

The 29-year-old told League Express in April he was keen to extend his stay with the club.

“I’m enjoying my time at Huddersfield,” he said.

“I’ve been here a few years and it’s a pleasure to play for the club.”

He joins a number of the club’s younger players in signing a new contract. Senior twins Innes and Louis, Jon Luke Kirby, Sam Hewitt and Jake Wardle have all committed their futures to the club in the last several months.

Meanwhile, the Giants are set to report back to training imminently. Their first game is on August 2nd when they take on Leeds Rhinos.
