Giants offer deals for Cudjoe and McQueen

Huddersfield Giants have offered contracts to Leroy Cudjoe and Chris McQueen (pictured) for the 2021 season.

League Express understands the pair have been approached by the Giants with new deals following some impressive performances in recent weeks.

Cudjoe, 32, a one-club man, is off-contract at the end of the year while McQueen, 33, joined the club last month on a short-term contract in the hope of earning a longer deal moving forward.

With their futures in the balance, both have done enough to satisfy the club that they should be awarded new deals and the Giants are hoping that both will agree to stay.

Cudjoe, who played ten times for England between 2010 and 2013, returned to action post-lockdown, after two serious knee injuries that kept him out for the best part of two years.

But he has since made eight appearances unscathed since and has scored in the Giants’ last two games.

Meanwhile, NRL and State of Origin player McQueen, who made one appearance for England in the 2017 World Cup, has impressed since making the move from Wests Tigers, scoring two tries so far.

Interim head coach Luke Robinson expressed his wish for McQueen to be retained last week.

“That’s for the club to decide, but for me, I’d like him to stay,” he said.

“Chris has been there and done it at the highest level.

“He’s been a really good player for us since he’s come in and steadied that right side down.

“He knows how to play the game. Everything he has done on the field has been tremendous and the same is true off it as well.

“The way he’s gone about things has been second to none and he’s someone I feel will definitely bolster our squad and make us better.”

Cudjoe and McQueen have both been selected in the Giants’ 21-man squad for Tuesday’s game against Hull FC at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

But Robinson makes two changes to his squad, with Owen Trout and Doming Young dropping out, making way for utility back Jordan Turner, while young forward Robson Stevens is drafted in and could make his senior debut.
