THOMAS MINNS has hailed Goole Vikings’ “special” win over London Broncos in last weekend’s Challenge Cup second round.
It was Goole’s first-ever professional match, with Minns producing one of the moments of the match with a length-of-the-field try.
The Vikings eventually held out for a 17-10 win, thanks to other scores from Tom Halliday and Mackenzie Harman, as well as a late field-goal from Reece Dean.
It’s been a short turnaround for the Vikings, who were only confirmed as the newest professional Rugby League side in September last year.
And Minns, 30, whose last professional club was Wakefield Trinity in the 2022 season, expressed his delight with the win: “We overcame a good team and made history together, which is really special. The boys are buzzing,” Minns said.
“We all want to thank and recognise all the backroom staff and people behind the scenes at the club who have worked so hard to put this all together in such a short space of time. It’s been unreal, and we all can share in this win together.
“That’s what has been great about the club since day one; there is a strong sense of togetherness and unity and everyone is playing their part.”
That victory sets up a third-round clash with Minns’ old club, which will be played at Trinity’s DIY Kitchens Stadium (Saturday 3.00pm) because of work being carried out at Goole’s Victoria Pleasure Grounds home.
