Salford Red Devils owner Marwan Koukash is never too far away from the news: and reports in Australia are linking him with another audacious swoop for an NRL club.
Koukash has never previously hid his desire to take on an NRL side – first expressing an interest in Newcastle Knights two years ago when Nathan Tinkler left the club.
And it is now being reported in Australia that Koukash is again interested in taking on the Knights. However, he has reportedly insisted that any involvement in the club’s ownership will hinge on him winning approval from the Newcastle public and the NRL.
“He doesn’t want to run the club as such and his preference is to partner with a local businessman or group such as Wests,” one source told Australia’s Daily Telegraph.
“He knows coach Nathan Brown from his time in England with St Helens and has been closely watching the changes he has been making and his youth policy and strongly believes that is the right path.
“But it’s fair to say he is not about to waste anyone’s time if he doesn’t meet the NRL’s ownership criteria.”
