WIGAN’S two-try hero Grace Banks has praised her forward pack for laying the platform the Warriors needed to race away to a 44-14 Challenge Cup semi-final win over Leeds Rhinos.
Banks showed speedy footwork to score in each half at York on Saturday as Wigan secured their first ever Challenge Cup final appearance.
Of Wigan’s nine tries, only two were scored by forwards – Megan Williams and Emily Veivers – with backs Anna Davies (two), Georgia Wilson, Molly Jones and Isabel Rowe getting the others.
“We have got a great pack,” said Banks, who admitted any nerves ahead of the semi-final soon disappeared as Wigan got off to a flying start.
“Eva Hunter is incredible and we’ve had some Aussies come over this year and they were class today.
“Those players being good helps us as backs – they draw the opposition in and we have all the space we need to get the ball and score.
“I was nervous beforehand but Denis (Betts, head coach) just told me to relax. Then as soon as we kicked off and I got that first contact we knew we needed to get into the game and I needed to get out of my own head.
“I imagine Denis will say the same before Wembley, just because we’re going to be playing there doesn’t mean we have to change our game.”
