Guisset expected to land French job

Jérôme Guisset is expected to become the new head coach of France.

The French Rugby League Federation had advertised for a new national team coach after recently-elected president Marc Palanques decided not to retain Warrington’s Richard Agar, who has been in charge of the France team since February 2013.

Planaques has put emphasis on instilling a French coach and staff to work with the national team, which resulted in Agar’s departure.

Former international forward Palanques told French paper L’Independant that he had written to Agar to inform him that he did now wish him to continue in the role.

And Guisset, a former French international and Catalans Dragons player, has emerged as the front-runner for the role.

Interviews will take place on September 8th and the appointment is expected to be made a week later. The new coaching staff will therefore have just five weeks to prepare the France team for the match against England at Avignon on October 22nd.
