Hardaker given 5-match ban

Leeds Rhinos fullback Zak Hardaker has been given a 5 -match suspension for his grade E offence of making a homophobic comment in the Rhinos’ recent game against Warrington Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

In other news from tonight’s meeting of the RFL disciplinary panel, Hardaker’s Leeds colleague Jamie Peacock was fined £300 but was not suspended for punching in the Rhinos’ Challenge Cup game against Leigh on Friday night.

Hull Kingston Rovers star Michael Weyman was successful in his appeal against a two-match suspension imposed last week for using foul and abusive language against a referee in the Robins’ match against Castleford Tigers. The appeal succeeded because the panel accepted that it couldn’t be certain that Weyman’s comments were directed at referee Tim Roby.

And Workington Town star Liam McAvoy was suspended for three matches for making a reckless tackle against Leigh star Sean Penkywicz in the game between the two clubs on 1st June.
