Henderson retires, aged 33

Ian Henderson, the former Bradford and Catalans hooker, has announced his retirement aged 33.

The veteran hooker made over 300 appearances in the NRL and Super League, with his final game coming in round 3 of this NRL season when he broke his leg playing for the Sydney Roosters.

“It’s a fair achievement getting an NRL contract at 33,” Henderson told foxsports.com.au.

“The average NRL career is under two seasons. I was happy to have this opportunity and feeling good.

“I played in England the first game against Souths. But injuries are part of the game. I’ve been pretty lucky throughout my career. I’ve played a heap of game time over a lot of seasons so to break my leg at the end of my career. I’m thankful for the journey I’ve had. I’m not negative about it. It happened.”
