Huddersfield confirm 2015 friendlies

Huddersfield Giants are intending to play two pre-season friendlies in preparation for the 2015 season – with West Yorkshire rivals Bradford and Halifax the opponents.

The Giants are likely to send a full strength squad to Odsal on the 18th January to face the Bulls – in a game which will pit two former Super League rivals together.

The club will then send a weaker squad to the Shay the week after (25th January), with Giants MD Richard Thewlis delighted to have two local derbies lined up ahead of the 2015 Super League campaign.

“We had anticipated to play a Super League team on the 25th but were let down at the eleventh hour so were delighted when Richard Marshall rang looking for a game that day which finalised our schedule nicely,” Thewlis said.

“Bradford continue to train full time and have a new look side aiming for their title and I know Paul is planning to play many of our younger professionals after their long pre season to see where they are at against a good side and Halifax will give us the local derby that many of our fans ask for each year.

“This year across there, given its our final run ahead of Hull we’d expect to be a lot stronger than previously when playing them and its good that Halifax are putting the traditional cup back out to play for.”
