HUDDERSFIELD boss Luke Robinson lamented his side’s decision-making at key moments after falling to a narrow 20-12 defeat to Warrington on Super League’s opening weekend.
Tui Lolohea had Huddersfield ahead after a strong first half-hour before three tries from Arron Lindop, Matty Ashton and Toby King saw Warrington take command.
The Giants were back in the contest when Joe Greenwood got over the try-line before Matt Dufty ensured the visitors left the John Smith’s Stadium with the two points.
“I’m gutted,” said the Huddersfield head coach. “The effort and desire that the players put in was unbelievable.
“Hopefully the fans and everybody else will realise how much of a tight-knit group they are and how much they care about each other and the team.
“There were key moments in the game that we didn’t handle very well.
“In the first half, they had a lot of back-to-back sets on our line and we started throwing the ball and gifted them a try, which spurred them on.
“In the second half, we did really well to contain them in their own 20 and Danny Walker kicks a 20/40, which was a brilliant kick but we watched the ball dribble out.
“From that moment on, we surrendered field position. If we had handled those two moments better, we would have been in a way better position.”
Opposite number Sam Burgess felt his Warrington troops lacked energy and expects his side to be much improved against Catalans on Friday.
“I thought our defence was pretty good at the start of that second half, we started playing with a bit more urgency,” said Burgess.
“(In the first half) I thought we looked lethargic and our body language was poor.
“But we found our way into the game, got our processes right, and we did enough to get the win.”
