ADAM SWIFT insists Huddersfield have the depth to see out a rough injury crisis.
The Giants have started the campaign with a host of first-choice players sidelined including Adam Clune (calf), Liam Sutcliffe (foot), Sam Halsall (elbow) and George King (ankle), while new signing Taane Milne is in Australia following the birth of his child.
Their current situation is an improvement on recent months, when coach Luke Robinson had a significant proportion of his senior players unable to train.
That saw players like Kieran Rush, George Flanagan, Jack Bibby and Jack Billington step up for pre-season games and their Challenge Cup third-round win at Hunslet.
Swift has returned from his own major injury, after missing the final four months of last season following groin surgery.
“I’ve still been recovering from my injury but I’d say I’m pretty much 100 percent now,” said the former St Helens and Hull FC winger.
“It is what it is. You’re pushed to your limits and you’re going to pick up a few injuries.
“We’ve picked up more than we would like, but we’ve got capable lads who have just slotted straight in and done a job for us.
“It’s a tough old sport that we play and we’re going to pick up injuries. With that we need depth in the squad and I think we have that at the Giants.
“We have some good young lads who have been filling the boots of the senior boys who have been out.”
Many are predicting a season of struggle for Huddersfield but Swift sees no reason why that should be the case.
“As players, we strive to win things and to be the best version of ourselves we can be,” he said.
“I think last year we all fell short of that. It gives us motivation but it’s not really something we’re dwelling on. We’ve not spoken about where we finished last season and where we’re going to finish this season.
“We know what we’re capable of if we’re all doing our jobs and giving 100 percent in everything we’re doing.”
