Inu in Salford contract talks

Salford Red Devils goalkicker Krisnan Inu is in talks over a new deal with the club.

The veteran Kiwi is off-contract at the end of the year and appeared to be on his way out of the club after struggling to break into the side both pre- and post-lockdown, making just one appearance before September.

But since featuring in the defeat to Castleford he has retained his place in the team and was selected for the Challenge Cup Final defeat to Leeds Rhinos.

Leigh Centurions have been linked with a move for Inu for several months, but Salford could yet retain the 33-year-old heading into 2021.

“The body is going alright at the moment,” Inu told League Express before the Challenge Cup Final.

“We’ll see what is out there, I’m waiting to see. I don’t know what the rumours are going around, but they know more than me. I keep getting told every other day I’ve signed for someone.”

Sources have confirmed that talks between the club and player have now started, with Salford looking to put the final touches to their squad for 2021.

Most of their recruitment and retention is done, with Joe Burgess (Wigan) and Matty Costello (St Helens) set to join the club to add depth to their outside backs.

A prop is now the club’s primary focus, as coach Ian Watson confirmed to League Express following the signing of Kallum Watkins.
