ENGLAND captain Jodie Cunningham has backed her St Helens clubmate and best friend Emily Rudge to bounce back from her international disappointment and hit her top form again in Super League.
The duo have been through so many of Women’s Rugby League’s memorable moments together, but Cunningham will be heading out to Las Vegas to take on Australia without Rudge by her side, after the latter narrowly missed out on a spot in Stuart Barrow’s squad.
For Cunningham, that disappointment will only spur Rudge on throughout the domestic season with Saints.
“I am as gutted as Emily is that she won’t be travelling out to Vegas with us,” Cunningham told League Express.
“She’s worked really hard over the last few months and just missed out, but that has made her so motivated to go back out there with Saints and have the best season she’s ever had.
“She’s more than capable of doing that. The work she’s put in over the last few months and the shape she’s in now, she’s in for a big season.
“Hopefully we can reap the benefits of that over the next few months and into the back end of the season, because when Emily is on form she’s unstoppable.”
