Joe Burgess operation a success, winger out four weeks

Wigan coach Shaun Wane says Joe Burgess’ knee operation was a success and that the talented young winger should be back in action within four weeks.

Burgess has been in great form for the Warriors this year having scored 19 tries in 22 appearances before picking up an injury in the win over Catalan Dragons.

Wane said: “Joe has had his op and is ok, it went well and the medical staff are happy.

“We expect him to be out for about 4 weeks, it’s not ideal to have any player out injured but it gives Budgie a chance to get a rest now after a lot of game time this season. He’ll be back for the big games at the end of the season which is great news.

“It also gives me the chance to have a look at another of our academy products – Dom Manfredi who I am very happy to have, I have a lot of confidence in Dom and I expect him to come in and do a great job.”
