Keighley Cougars coach explains Jarrod Sammut signing

JARROD SAMMUT’S arrival at Keighley Cougars will “raise standards” says their coach Jake Webster.

Sammut, who has had spells with Bradford, London, Wakefield and Wigan, has signed a one-year deal with the Cougars as the West Yorkshire side aims to improve on last year’s disappointing end to their League One campaign.

The 37-year-old first came to UK shores to ply his trade with the Crusaders when they were a Super League club, but he was most recently on the books of the Bulls in the Championship.

On the signing of the Maltese international, Webster said: “Jarrod will now link up with the likes of Izaac Farrell, Jack Miller and Ben Dean and just share some of his experience with the halves in this team.

“Jaz (Sammut) and I are well versed, and I know what he is capable of, he can play anywhere in the spine and that’s what I am looking to develop as the year goes on.

“His arrival adds competition for places and raises standards.”
