Knights ground wait continues

York City Knights still don’t know when they will be able to play at the York Community Stadium after last week confirming that their Super League double-header will take place at Bootham Crescent.
The two-game event that sees the Knights host Featherstone before Toronto face Wakefield on March 22 had been schedule to take place in the new facility.
But the opening of the venue continues to be put back, with no firm dates still in place for test events for the ground.
A club statement read: “York City Knights regret to announce that the Betfred Super League and Championship double header on Sunday, March 22nd will no longer be played at the York Community Stadium.
“However, thanks to the support of Sky Sports and the cooperation of all the clubs involved, the event will now take place at Bootham Crescent.
“The club have been informed via GLL that the builders, Buckingham Group, have failed to provide the information required for the test events to occur.
“Neither party are willing or able to provide new test event dates at this stage.
“The Knights would like to sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by the change in venue.
“We share your disappointment and frustration at this outcome, but rest assured that we will work as hard as possible to make this event a success, and showcase our fantastic city to the world.”
Meanwhile on the field the club has signed Huddersfield hooker Reiss Butterworth on a month’s loan.
The former Bradford Academy player spent a similar spell in the Championship with Batley last season.
Knights coach James Ford said: “Reiss is a talented young player coming through an excellent system. He has plenty of strengths, which will have a positive impact on our play.
“Reiss has an excellent attitude and we’re excited to help him continue to develop.”
Butterworth himself added: “I’m excited to get going at a good level in the Championship; it’s a good opportunity to get some experience under James Ford.
“Playing against men, and bigger bodies, is going to be the key to my development.
“Hopefully I can use this chance to gain valuable experience going forward and I’m grateful to York for this opportunity.”
