Lancashire avoid Under 19s wooden spoon

With Yorkshire having already secured the BARLA Under 19s County Tri-Series title, interest in the meeting of Lancashire and Cumbria at Blackbrook centred on which side would finish bottom of the pile.

That team is Cumbria, who were beaten 20-10.

Tries in the first half by Callum Houghton, John Whittaker and Gavin Roden, plus a couple of conversions by Rob Collier, helped Lancashire to a 16-0 interval lead.

Ryan Gray nipped over when the second period got underway to stretch the advantage to 20 points. And touchdowns for Jordan O’Leary and Ryan Clegg, one of which Dean Rooney converted, came too late to rescue the situation for Cumbria.
