Jamie Langley admits that it will take a bit of time for the Robins’ new-look squad to settle down but refuses to use that as an excuse for the opening day defeat against Leeds last weekend.
“I think we had eight people on debut against Leeds last weekend and things will take time to gel,” he said. “But that’s no excuse as we had a really good pre-season and a couple of good hit outs in the friendlies.
“We were confident going into the Leeds game and up until half-time everything was fine. We’d competed really well but for some reason in the second half, the wheels came off and I’m not entirely sure why that happened.
“Obviously Leeds played well but I also think we had a lot to do with our own downfall and we have to recognise that and make the necessary improvements to our game.”
Over 11,500 squeezed into the KC Lightstream Stadium last Sunday and Langley was quick to pay tribute to the Robins’ fans and the support they gave the team.
“The crowd were really vocal and there was a great atmosphere inside the ground,” he added. “I’ve experienced it a few times in the past from an opposition perspective and it’s a daunting place to come and play so we need to use that to our advantage.
“The supporters turned out in massive numbers and were fantastic on the day. I know it was a ground record attendance which is testament to the hard work that the club put in behind the scenes in the build-up. We need to take a look at our performance and come up with some better ones in the future to repay the faith that everyone has shown in us.”
