Leigh Leopards boss Adrian Lam names “the best hitter” in Super League

LEIGH LEOPARDS head coach Adrian Lam has named his Papua New Guinea hooker Edwin Ipape as “the best hitter” in Super League.

Ipape has earned rave reviews far and wide for his performances since making the move to the Leopards back at the start of the 2022 Championship season.

The PNG star took the second tier by storm that year before replicating that form in 2023, earning a place in the Super League Dream Team and helping the Leopards to Challenge Cup glory.

In 2024, Ipape’s form has been up and down, but, after being sat down for one game after copping a suspension, Leigh head coach Adrian Lam feels that the livewire was back to his best in the demolition of St Helens last weekend.

“He was brilliant, absolutely brilliant and back to himself,” Lam said.

“We all know Edwin Ipape for his running out of dummy half and his skill and speed but one of his best attributes is his front foot defensive contact.

“He is potentially the best hitter in Super League and we saw that about six or seven times last week.

“He has been a bit reckless sometimes in falling off on some occasions but the talk we had really worked.”
