Keiron Cunningham has confirmed that Jonny Lomax is fit to play in St Helens’ Magic Weekend clash with Huddersfield Giants.
The fullback limped out of St Helens’ victory over Salford on Friday, naturally raising concern following his injury woe in recent years.
Cunningham explained to League Express that the decision to bring him off was precautionary, a statement he reinforced this week.
“Jonny’s leg is fine – it was all a precautionary move,” Cunningham told St Helens Star.
“Jonny was disappointed on Friday; he didn’t want to come off the field because he playing really well.
“He is still finding his feet after a 14 month lay-off, but he still scored a game-changing try for us. It was opening up really nice for him and he would have probably got a couple more had he stayed out there.
“He is a big asset for St Helens and as head coach I have a duty to keep our assets fit.”
