London Broncos have announced the signing of Ben Hellewell from Featherstone Rovers on a two year deal from the 2015 season.
Hellewell, 22, a versatile back, is currently on loan to Dewsbury Rams from Featherstone Rovers. He started his career at Bradford Bulls before moving to Warrington Wolves. He is a Scottish international having played six times for the national side between 2011 and 2013 including all four of the side’s games in RLWC2013. Ben scored two tries against Italy in a thrilling draw at Derwent Park, Workington.
Head coach Joey Grima is delighted to add Hellewell to the squad, saying: “Ben is a utility back who can play centre and wing and he comes from a good programme having been brought up by Warrington Wolves.
“We watched him in the Kingstone Press Championship and was very impressive He’s always been a kid that has been something special in Super League when given the chance.”
Hellewell is excited to be joining the London club and moving to full-time training. “Switching to full-time training with the club will help my rugby career massively and after speaking to people about the coaching staff, they couldn’t speak highly enough of them,” he said.
“The main reason I decided to sign for the club was the enthusiasm of Joey Grima to transform the club into a winning culture. All the players and staff I’ve spoken to are friendly and welcoming which I found inspirational.
“I’m looking forward to playing with every single player at the club. London have made some great signings this year in players I’ve watched when I was learning the game. I’ve also watched a few of the youngsters coming through the youth development system at the club that have made an impression in the Super League and there’s some more coming through to look out for in the future.”
