Castleford Tigers head coach Daryl Powell believes star forward Andy Lynch should be held in the same accord as legendary Super League prop Jamie Peacock, as Lynch prepares for his testimonial game this weekend.
In the absence of Michael Shenton, Lynch will captain Castleford against one of his former teams this Sunday, in a match which sees both sides fielding strong teams.
And Powell is in no doubt about how important Lynch has been to the Tigers, as well as making the comparison between Lynch and the former Great Britain captain earlier this week.
“It’s fantastic that it’s a testimonial game for Andy Lynch. What a servant he has been to Castleford and all the clubs he’s played for and rugby league in general,” Powell said.
“You hold him in the same regard you do people like Jamie Peacock. He doesn’t get talked up as much as Jamie, but I see him as the same sort of player – real honest, committed, absolutely 100 per cent every game. A great professional and he deserves everything he will get from his testimonial.
“He was massive for us last year, not just as a player. It was what he brought to the club, his standards, the way he goes about his business on the training field on a day to day basis.”
