Manfredi out for the season

Dom Manfredi’s season is over after scans confirmed that the winger has suffered an ACL injury.

League Express reported last night that the Wigan flier was set to miss England’s Four Nations campaign after Shaun Wane expressed fears that the youngster had suffered a serious injury following a physical tackle from Castleford halfback Rangi Chase.

Wane’s worst fears have now been realised, with results confirming that Manfredi has suffered a similar injury to that of Michael Shenton and Tommy Makinson, who have yet to return after months out injured.

“It’s a bad one. Dom will be out for a long time, I’m really gutted for him he’s a great player,” said head coach Shaun Wane.

“It’s really sad but we’ve got a great medical department here and I’m sure he will bounce back stronger from it.

“The players are really motivated to get something from the season for him.”

He will now miss the rest of the Wigan’s Grand Final chasing campaign, and England’s first competitive fixtures under new head coach Wayne Bennett.

After bursting onto the scene in 2014, Manfredi has been outstanding in cherry and white, scoring 38 tries in 47 appearances.

It is the latest knee issue for Manfredi, who had a number of issues with his knees as a youngster.
