March pleased with Cougars display

Keighley Cougars head coach Paul March voiced his satisfaction after his side’s 16-8 victory over Championship side Oldham.

Tries from Charlie Martin, Hamish Barnes and debutant Richie Hawkyard secured victory for the hosts in their first game of 2016, with the performance pleasing March.

“I thought we played well,” he told The Telegraph and Argus.

“Defensively our contact was good early on and, although we went away from it, we fixed it up at half-time and didn’t allow them to play.

“It was a muddy field and a battle of the fittest in the middle, but I thought we looked very fit as well.

“I think both teams will be happy with that at this stage in pre-season. Yes, it wasn’t the most spectacular game but the lads have been working towards and it was good to get out there.”
