Match preview: St Helens v Huddersfield Giants

St Helens and Huddersfield will be looking to keep up the pace with leaders Leeds Rhinos tonight, as they lock horns in a hugely important Super League clash in front of the Sky cameras.

The two sides had contrasting fortunes at Magic Weekend, with the Saints on the wrong end of a hammering from Warrington Wolves. And they will be forced to take on the Giants without full-back Jonny Lomax, with the likes of Alex Walmsley and Josh Jones absent.

For Huddersfield, they look set to make just a solitary change, as Jermaine McGillvary returns to their side for the clash. He comes in for Jodie Broughton, who was injured during the Giants’ Magic Weekend victory against Bradford Bulls.

The Squads
St Helens:
Makinson, Turner, Hohaia, Walsh, Masoe, Roby, McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Soliola, Wilkin, Flanagan, Wellens, Greenwood, Wheeler, Walker, Dawson, Richards, Thompson, Hand, Tilley.

Huddersfield Giants: Grix, McGillvary, Cudjoe, Wardle, Murphy, Brough, Robinson, Crabtree, Lunt, Kopczak, Ferres, Chan, Bailey, Lawrence, Patrick, Faiumu, Ta’ai, Wood, Mullally.

The Stats
If he features, Brett Ferres will make his 200th career appearance for the Huddersfield Giants this evening. (35 for Bradford, 2005-2006; 38 for Wakefield, 2007-2008; 83 for Castleford, 2009-2012 and 43 for Huddersfield, 2012-2014)

Huddersfield’s Danny Brough has the longest scoring streak amongst Super League players, having registered points in the Giants’ last 17 games. His run of consecutive scoring appearances began with all of his side’s points (one try, two goals) in a 22-8 home play-off defeat by Wigan on 12 September, 2013.
