Moors lining up big year

Castleford Tigers forward Junior Moors says he’s hoping for an improved year with the club this season – after admitting to being inconsistent on a personal level in 2015.

Moors made over 20 appearances last season after joining from Melbourne Storm, playing a key role as the Tigers eventually finished fifth on the table.

But he says that he’s targeting a better year individually, after revealing he felt his form was up and down last year.

“When I arrived last year I was quite inconsistent,” he said.

“I felt like I found my feet towards the end of the season, and I was starting to get to grips with Super League.

“Hopefully I can grow on that this year and have an even better season.

“I’ve got a fair idea of what’s to come this year, which will help. All the pitches are pretty hard to play on at the moment but I’m raring to go – it’s been a long off-season and a really tough pre-season.”

Moors is also confident that the increased competition at the club will help bring the best out of everyone at the Tigers.

“When you’ve got people challenging for positions all across the park it’s a really good thing to have in the group,” he added.

“The top four is our goal, that’s what we’re striving for and it’s one of the main things we need to focus on.”

Elsewhere, Cas coach Daryl Powell has confirmed that he’s looking to fix new signing Greg Minikin up with a loan deal in the Championship to further his development.

Minikin impressed in the Tigers’ recent pre-season game against Bradford, but Powell is in the process of attempting to find him a short-term deal elsewhere.

“He’s not fixed up yet, but he impressed in pre-season, especially against Bradford, and showed he could handle some things against a good Championship side. I haven’t got him a deal yet though,” he said.

Powell also confirmed that the Tigers are likely to be without Frankie Mariano for another month, although the club’s treatment room is fairly empty apart from that.
“We’ve a couple of little bumps and bruises,” he said.

“Nathan Massey is still unavailable, but he’s not too far away, whilst Frankie Mariano is around four weeks away still. Other than that, we’re doing alright on the fitness front.”
