NEWCASTLE THUNDER revealed the attendance figure for their Magic Friday clash with Workington was 619, the highest since moving to Blaydon Rugby Union Club ahead of this season.
Workington ran in eleven tries to defeat the homegrown Newcastle side, led by Geordie Chris Thorman.
There have been calls for more to be done to signpost north-east support to Thunder and help them become more competitive.
RL Commercial chiefs revealed between 8,000 and 10,000 locals attended Super League’s Magic Weekend at St James’ Park.
The Workington game was the first time Newcastle have declared an attendance this season, with them struggling at the bottom of League One.
