Castleford utility Kieran Gill has signed a one-month loan deal at Championship strugglers Oldham.
Gill, who can play in the three-quarters or in the halves, is expected to come straight into Scott Naylor’s squad for their huge clash against Whitehaven this weekend.
The youngster is now too old to play under-19s rugby and has been spending time out on dual-registration with Oxford – but the Tigers are now understood to be keen on him playing at a higher level to further his development.
“Kieran can play centre and stand-off. We needed to strengthen that area of the squad and he ticks the boxes,” said Oldham coach Naylor.
“He trained with us for the first time last night and he looked good.”
“Kieran has really worked hard this year & has done everything asked of him, and now has a chance to test himself at Oldham,” said Tigers chief executive Steve Gill.
Speaking about the weekend clash with Haven, Naylor told the club’s official website: “We’ll have to play well to beat Whitehaven, who I believe are in a false position and should be higher up the table.
“The importance of the game is obvious, but for me it’s also about performance and grabbing the opportunity to start playing the sort of rugby we produced earlier in the season.
“We need to get back into the winning habit in our remaining league games and then kick-on into the Championship Shield.”
