New South Wales’ 22-12 victory over Queensland in Game I of 2018’s State of Origin was watched by a peak audience of 3.894 million in Australia according to Channel Nine, the host broadcaster.
The channel’s new streaming service 9Now attracted a record 6.6 million viewing minutes while Origin was the number one programme in five major Australian cities: Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne, the venue for the game.
Throughout the game and the aftermath, Origin dominated social media and was trending in eight countries, 46 cities and was at number two worldwide.
