DEWSBURY RAMS coach Paul March insists that the club that finished bottom of the Championship last season is being rebuilt with a view to not only climbing back up but staying there next time.
The Rams won just one game in 2024 with previous coach Dale Ferguson stepping down last May.
Now March has had a new focus on building the squad around younger players.
“Last year was tough for us,” conceded March.
“I don’t think it was physical – more mental – but obviously our fate and demotion to League One was made certain quite early.
“That gave me the opportunity to begin rebuilding the team and bring in a lot of young players to add to the experience that we already had.”
March has signed three players – Dec Tomlinson, Caelum Jordan and Luke Mearns – from Shaw Cross, who he also helps coach, plus Louie Walker from nearby Dewsbury Moor.
“I’ve spent three years at Shaw Cross and they understand how I want us to play and are definitely capable of stepping up to League One,” he said.
“It’s all about opportunity at Dewsbury Rams and our goal is to get into the top four. Once you make the top eight, it’s anyone’s game, but I also want to build a side that will go up and stay up this time.
“We don’t always want to be a yo-yo club.”
