Player dies after being tackled

A rugby league player has died after suffering a heart attack during a game.

Grant Cook, 28, suffered a cardiac arrest after he was tackled in Murwillumbah Mustangs’ game against the Casino Cougars in New South Wales.

He was taken to Gold Coast University hospital but died on Sunday night.

Mr Cook’s wife, Colleen, paid tribute to her husband on Facebook.

“Life can be so cruel,” Cook said. “He has left a huge hole in my heart and I know all family, especially his parents, are hurting trying to understand this tragedy.

“You died doing something you loved so passionately, and I guess that’s how I have to look at it. You finally got to wear that No. 6 jersey before the season was out too.”

The match was postponed and been rearranged for Tuesday, however a decision has yet to be made on whether to abandon it.
