Powell gives his troops time off to rest

Castleford Tigers coach Daryl Powell has revealed that despite a heavy defeat at home to Warrington last week, his players have been given time off to refresh ahead of the Super 8s.

Powell pointed out that their performance last week was not what merited the time off, more the efforts they have put in to remain within touching distance of the top four heading into the second phase of the season.

“The players have been given some time off this week,” Powell told the Pontefract and Castleford Express.

“Obviously for what they’ve done over the season they deserve it, but certainly not for what we delivered last week.”

And Powell says it was always going to work out this way despite the defeat last Sunday, saying that a break will do his troops good.

“It was the plan to get the 23 rounds out the way then have a break.

“The players have been in every week consistently up until now and it takes its toll on your body and obviously there could be some fatigue there so this was the right time to give them a break and just get away from rugby.
