Powell uninterested in Carney talk

Castleford Tigers coach Daryl Powell has shot down any talk about Justin Carney’s return to the club this weekend.

Following a controversial exit from the Mend-A-Hose Jungle which resulted in him joining Salford on a season-long loan, Carney makes his first appearance back at the ground this weekend with the Red Devils.

But Powell, speaking to the Pontefract and Castleford Express, insisted that he’d rather focus on the strengths of Salford as a team rather than one man.

“I haven’t really got any comment about Justin Carney’s return. I’m not going to speak about that this week, we’ve just got a job to do, concentrate on ourselves and get on with it,” he said.

“It will be a tough game. If you look at Salford so far they’ve been really difficult to play against.

“Their attacking game is good. Dobson is really playing well on the left and they’ve got Robert Lui on the right, who looks a handful at the moment.

“They look a good side. They’ve got Murdoch-Masila who looks really sharp and aggressive on the right hand side.”
