Halifax’s recent good run came to an end when they lost 38-35 at home to Swinton Lions. Coach Richard Marshall said: “We were disappointed with our performance last week. We didn’t give a good enough account of ourselves.
“Swinton threw everything at us and thoroughly deserved the win, they scored more points than us, more tries than us and out-enthused us. There’s a bit more to do in the camp over the next few weeks.
“We had a good win against Pilkington Recs in the last round of the Cup, who are in the same division as Lock Lane. We think Lock Lane are a better team and are going to throw a few more challenges at us.
“We’re looking forward to it, it will be a great day for both clubs. Hopefully we can get through to the next round but we aren’t taking anything for granted. As we saw at the weekend – anything can happen in sport!”
Lock Lane lost their first National Conference League game last week at Rochdale Mayfield. Coach Martin Rowse said: “We’ve had a couple of games since the last round and the result last week didn’t go our way. I don’t know whether the guys had this cup tie in the back of their minds, it’s hard not to I suppose, but they’ve all been looking forward to the occasion. They’ve trained well and prepared as well as they can do. We’ll see how we go.”
