Radford delighted to secure top four spot

Hull FC chief Lee Radford was delighted after his side secured a place in the play-offs with a 44-0 win over Catalans.

An emphatic performance saw Hull put Laurent Frayssinous’ side to the sword ahead of next week’s Challenge Cup Final, and secure their first top four finish since 2007.

“It’s hugely pleasing to seal the top four,” Radford said.

“We knew it was up for grabs before the game so to get it done and dusted so early is great: we’re in effect 80 minutes away from a Grand Final now. We’ve got the League Leader’s Shield to go for too so we’ve got to make sure we continue our form.

“Defensively we were outstanding. For two weeks running we’ve been at the top of our game and we’ll have to be like that next week against a top-quality outfit. It’s really important we go to Wembley and perform like we have done all year in the cup.”

Radford’s latest task is to pick his Challenge Cup Final squad, with Radford dreading the prospect of dropping people from his Wembley squad.

“It’s made it even more difficult after what I’ve seen tonight. I’ll be telling a number of kids they won’t be involved on Saturday and it’s going to be a horrible thing to do as a coach. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy, so I’ll try make the call as early as I can.”
