Ronan Costello’s family issue message to rugby league public

The family of Ronan Costello have thanked Rugby League fans for the compassion and generosity shown since the 17-year-old Huddersfield Giants Academy player tragically passed away on Tuesday.

Ronan’s family have said that they appreciate well-wishers’ concerns in offering financial assistance through newly formed ‘Just Giving’ sites but have requested that all donations in support of Ronan be made via the Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund.

The fund was set up in memory of former Wales and Keighley Cougars player Danny Jones, who died last year from an undiagnosed heart condition.  Money from the fund will be used to help community and junior Rugby League clubs purchase potentially life-saving cardiac equipment.

The family wish for all fund-raising  to be co-ordinated through the RFL Benevolent Fund. There is no immediate need for financial support as a result of Ronan’s passing.

There will be a collection at Ronan’s funeral for the Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Headway charities.  The date and venue of the funeral are still to be confirmed.
